I have only been on this site for a couple days now and i am very happy with the volume of people who visit and reply to messages but i have noticed a lot of hostility.

People getting defensive, rude, and even insulting on the site. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and weither you think the same about it there are definately more constructive ways to talking about it then "You have a problem with that?".

Just an observation, if this continues to be a problem i probably wont be visiting this site anymore. Just take a "Chill Pill" lol

IMHO this site is about as tame as it gets, although occasionally some of us have been known to get a tad feisty, especially after our boats have been winterized. Now if you wanted to really see the fur fly Scott could allow political posts again. }(

FYI, I know the post you’re referring to and didn’t find that comment offensive. However, I do wonder what the threads originator was soliciting?

Boy,This place is about as tame as you can get. Which is a good thing. Posts get blasted quickly if out of line (maybe to quickly sometimes) All in all this place is great. And you are not part of the gang till you get a post dusted. :o

That's an uphill climb. It only gets worse come winter...just wait and see. LOL

Any responses you feel are out of line, please feel free to hit the "alert" button in the bottom left corner of the message box. We Mods can't read every thread/post everyday, so if you think a post breaks the rules, like the last reply to you in that "Kicker Motor" thread did, which I deleted by the way, then hit the alert button. We will take care of it.

Or, just tone down the sales pitches, and you won't have them attacking you. There's a fine line between information and advertising, and "free advertising" is not allowed on the message boards. Long time members know this, and alert us to it. Others simply post a nasty reply, like you received.
Either way, take anonymous posts for what they are worth...alert us and shrug it off. ;)

This forum is pretty calm, try going to a few that have little or no moderator input, people are pretty brave when their anonymous and some tend to think its ok to start flame wars at the drop of the hat....or how I learned to be macho on the inner net.... :)

Might want to consider what was posted, and why the response was what it was, I'd say the mods here keep everything running #### smooth.

Want hostile??
Try going to one of the audio sites and tell them ya just bought a new Bose system...:)

Although we all have room for improvement, this site is, in my opinion, the most rational and non-emotional, as well as the most informative.

Some other fishing sites take on the mind set of the Hatfield-Macoy feud (no offense intended for any readers named Hatfield or Macoy [it's always best to cover your backside if you think you might be offending someone]).

If you take a look and compare, most of the folks frequenting this site are folks you'd be comfortable sharing a boat with for a day.

That's why I like it.

Like Juls said we will take the occasional shot at the unregistered guy trying to stir the pot or the guy's trying to pump product. I find very little value in those posts anyway so I tend to want to have some fun. ;-)

If everyone just reads and follows the rules set forth by Scot things run well.

It's a super site to share tips, tactics, info, jokes and to take jabs at our friends. It's not a good site to debate politics, religion, blatantly promote product or to stir the pot.

Stick around, you will learn to love the site as much as the rest of us do. You didn't quit fishing the first time you lost a fish so don't let one post determine your opinion on Walleye Central. :-)

Enjoy yourself and SHARE information.

Hang in there.
Juls had very good tips.
We all have learned, a person will get "heat" going, and get "one-upped" if they use the boards as free advertising for their own personal gain.
But...if somebody else mentions good things or gives locational information about your business...that seems to be Ok. Makes sense, too. That's an endorsement or testimonial from a third party.

LOL... just how it works.

This is a great place to learn and get some great laughs, too. There are some real "characters" and really witty folks frequenting this site.

Hang in there, you'll get the hang of it.

This is about the tamest spot I visit on the net. Most of the discussions are very civil and when they're not it is usually just people jabbing each other -- like you do when you get together with friends. When someone promotes a product, like you do, sometimes they find a bit of hostility :-)

you're pretty quick to jump to conclusions......this board is pretty cohesive and anything but hostile. I suggest you go to the Philadelphia Eagles nfl.com forum to see the definition of "People getting defensive, rude, and even insulting on the site" No offense intended but your statement was way off base. You should try growing a thicker skin....

I visit a lot of fishing sites. The members on this site actually get along pretty well and tend to speak to each other with respect for the most part, even when they disagree. You'll find that it's often anonymous posters who stir up trouble... not always, but generally. Ignore it. And, if you find a post is getting out of hand, either sit back and laugh or move on to the next thread. The beauty of discussion forums like this is, you don't have to read the stuff you don't want to read. Stick around. You'll find much more good than bad. ;)

Try posting that you caught some fish, then don't give the exact GPS coordinates, and offer to launch their boat for them, as well as pay for the gas. Then you'll see some hostility.

yet some posts invite a negative response. I might add, you appear to be trying to corner the market in this respect. Your Vermilion night bite post, with absolutely no pertinent info, was pure "my dog is bigger than your dog" tripe. Why else would you bother to make a post such as that? This was shortly followed by your announcment of having found a great deal on cranks, but of course you "grabbed them all up".
Again my dog tripe. Your batting 1000, as your previous post displays, by rancidly overstating your case.

This is just what we need, another new guy to come in here and tell us we ain't playing nice! He don't know us or where we live or nothing. He don't know all the years of B.S.'ing it took for us to be able to make the subtle jabs or King sized slams on our buddies from another State that don't know shinola about catchin fish. AND he sure don't know how hard I'm laughin as I post this load of crap. Just Yankin your chain there HONDAM, nice of you to join us and I really do hope you stick around long enough to realize that most of the time things run really smooth. There are very few times that things get too far out of hand. The Moderators do a good job of keeping things civil, even in the late days of winter before iceout when everyone starts to get alittle bit edgy. I like to think of things as sharing the boat with a friend. How much abuse do you heap on your buddys when you're sitting in the boat? If you ain't trading barbs, you ain't fishin! You'll just have to sneak up on the line ya can't cross until you've found the limit, then POOOF!- your post will be gone and you'll know- you're one of the team. Take one for the T-E-A-M !

I've slammed and been slammed and have been dusted many 'o time. It is hard, though, to pervey emotion through typing. For example- I say to my friends " you're a dumba**" but I'm just kidding around and they know that by the way I'm saying it to them. Now if I say "you're a dumba**" to you while typing and forget to add the :rotflmao: or LOL, you'd probably take it seriously and reply with a nasty post (again- just an example). Most of the guys (oops-and ladies- sorry Juls) on this site are a plethora of knowledge and as you well know "two heads are better than one" and the more good guys with great knowledge regularly visit this site, the better off we all will be. I hope you stick around and have alot of good things to contribute to this great site of ours! :boozer:

Really? It's those Bears and Viking fans, huh...they just can't get a long, with there so called winning records.

The Packer fans are right there buddy, humble in all ways, with a 2-4 record that is a must.

Walleye fishing can humble you as well, so when you are on it...it is hard being humble.

Getting along is easy so long as everyone agrees with everything you say. Well there you have it. As Charlie Brown says...Good grief!!

:)

Hondam, I'm familiar with you from Great Lakes Angler. Basically this site doesn't allow you to try to sell your products. It's a little different over there. If you're here to sell something, you're wasting your time (unless you make a donation, become a sponsor or something like that). You'll see all of your posts trying to sell or advertise your product get zapped.

I've had one post zapped in the few years I've been here. Someone was asking about Grady White boats and I mentioned that I had one, explained what I liked and said that I planned to sell later in the summer and purchase a larger model. My post got zapped for mentioning the fact that I was going to sell it.

If you talk up Honda motors (which I think are great), Hewes craft, or world cats you're going to have a bunch of unlogged posters taking shots at you and your products. If that bothers you, don't stick around. It's going to happen.

Oh, don't post pictures of your products in the photo gallery. I bet they won't like that.

We need to get to the root of the problem. HONDAM, who has been so mean to you? Has it been Juls? I know she could outfish me. Maybe she has a mean streak.
Has it been T-MAC? He can be pretty intimidating with his vast knowledge of boats and motors.
Has it been Karpbuster? Anybody that busts carp cannot be that nice.
Has it been TBOMN? Did you have a run in with a teacher in your youth?

I never thought i would get such a responce but this helps to prove the overall point. I was not just talking about one isolated post. Its also interesting how big peoples egos get when they are online and dont have to back anything up. They hide behind behind the safety of a computer screen and think they can say whatever they want. And they get away with it, congratulations.
