The above addy will get you to the website of Riviera Downrigger Corp., that sells a great handline reel.
I think it was the January issue of Walleye Insider 2001 that had a great 6 page article on it. If it wasn't Jan. it was a month when there was still snow on the ground..;-) North American Fishing Club published a good article on it too. Steve Pennaz, NAFC Wizard, fished the MWC Spring Valley tournament this year with Rick LaCourse. Both were handlining. A short time later the article was published, so that would make the distribution of it sometime around April or May.
There is another good article on the subject on a website somewhere on the internet, but I don't have that site addy saved. Maybe someone on this site will know what the addy is.

I saved that copy of the Walleye Insider Juls was referring to, just to reference the handlining article. If interested, I'd be happy to mail you a copy of the article.

If you are going to invest the money in a set of good handline reels then save your self a lot of grief and buy a set of A & S hand line reels. These reel put the others to shame. You can find them at Bottom Line Bait and Tackle the phone number is 732-379-9762. The old timer that showed me the ropes had been handlining for over 45 years and he has used them all. The only reel you find on his boat is the A & S.
The AS reel will do the job, but not in the best way. You can only put 300 ft. of wire on the AS. This is ok for most fishermen, but if you want over 600 ft. you can't beat the Victrolla. Ray

I would this time take Spikehorn's advice on this one.I was taught by the same old timer.I have had my A&S for five years now and still works like I bought it yesterday.Remember you get what you pay for!As for buying tackle and reels,Bottom Line is the place.
