AFTER LOOKING FURTHER IN THE BOARD I SEE THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN ASKED.
HOWEVER FOR YOU WALLEY SLAYERS IS IT BEST TO USE MULTIPLE SPLIT SHOT OR ONE LARGE SPLIT SHOT SO THAT WHEN THE WALLEY RUNS WITH IT IT WILL NOT SPIT IT OUT DUE TO THE WEIGHT? OR DOES IT NOT MATTER?
I use lead core for weight. tip up line, lead core then 12-14" mono

I like lead core for perch and crappie too, especially on a dead stick set.
I tie up a 1-2 foot chunk of lead core tied with a surgeons knot to a 2 foot leader of 2-4 pound mono with a jig or plain hook. No float needed, just a long light dead stick rod in a rod holder.
Good option for sneaky Sumo perch.
;)

Great Idea I am going to have to try! With split shot your tipup line sometimes gets tangled around the split shot when unwinding the tipup line. Leadcore would eliminate that problem and eliminate any line snarls.
