Whats up with the two re:s I got from Julia davis?. Both of them had virus attachments attached to them.? I'm seasoned enough to know not to open .ocr or .pif files. .doc is not a good one to open either. Just wondering why she would be sending these around when she knows they are a virus?. Had two of them in my mail box today. Both from Julia davis.? I mean heck man, I thought she was going to ask me out for dinner not give me a VIRUS!. Ick. "COMA"

Some viruses go into a person's address book and then email the virus to everyone in that person's address book.

VERY unintentional, Juls had no idea this was happening. This particular virus is called a "worm" virus. It attaches to the hosts e-mail address book without warning and subsequently self-broadcasts the virus to the host's entire e-mail address book. Since Microsoft mail contains a history of e-mail addresses that have been sent and received, the virus is bigger then the address book itself.
This is not intentional on the sender's part and Juls is not the first or last person to have this happen. A >>>little<<< understanding goes a long way. Just be flattered that you are in her history! ;-)
....and that would be 1400 posts folks! Yee Haw!

Does anyone on WC top your 1400 posts?

I'm sorry Coma!! I didn't know I had the bug until it was too late. It happend so quick! I finally got rid of the bugger, and I think my system is clean now. I hope.
Sorry to everyone who I have inconvenienced. Dodge 1's advice helped me clear the puter of this virus, and it was pretty easy to do. If you get this W32Badtrans.b@mm virus, just download that removal program he has a link to on his earlier posts.

Just got home from work - saw your note - guess you got it handled already. It's a pain though, isn't it.

Yes, it was. But thankfully it wasn't a worm that erases all the info stored in the puter. Some people's kids eh? Grrrr..lol

Hey, Juls...it happens. It got forwarded to me too from your addy book, my scanner caught it right away. When I sent out all those reef runner color charts more than a few people that were nice enough to write me back thanking me had viruses attached too, I guess its just a lesson to get familar with your virus program and update the data file once a week or so. I bet you know just what to do now, dont you??
;-)
Actually, just for tip, whenever I am emailing with the public I always use my yahoo addy, so things are stored on their server, not locally. It also scans with the latest virus scanner data files, too. Something anyone who deals with the public might want to consider.

And another good idea is to NOT use Outlook or Outlook Express foe email. Many viruses are written specifically to take advantage of security holes in their code. try using Netcape Communicator (v.4.7), Eudora or some other email program.

If you're running Outlook Express, you may want to disable your pre-view panel. I got nailed on one the other day that got by me. I first learned about it when I spotted e-mail messages being returned that I didn't send. As far as Juls asking you to dinner....heck, the one I got from her said "me nude" !!! I sure hated to delete that one LOL.

Good advice on the preview panel Larry!!! Its a problem waiting to happen. Actually, its called preview pane, to disable it, go to view>layout and deselect "show preview pane"

Here is a tip from the Outdoor Writer's Association of America on avoiding email computer viruses I thought I would pass along. Go to your address book and create a new contact entry with a name "AAA". do not assign an email address... By using AAA, this contact record should appear as the first entry in your address book. If your computer is infected with a virus and it tries to send itself to everyone in your address book, you will receive an error message stating, "The message could not be sent. One or more recipients do not have an email address."....This will provide the opportunity to delete the infected e-mail message, preventing it from sending itself to everyone in your address book. Make sure your anti-virus shield is up to date! Hope everyone has a happy holiday season...Mark

Hey Mark.. I had this same information about setting up your email like this sent to me and the same person remailed me an hour later saying this information was a hoax and incorrect. I'm not sure who is correct but I don't plan on downloading a virus to try it out! :o Any more info you may come across on this would be appreciated.
It won't stop the virus from infecting the computer I guess Gilligan...only keep it from going through the entire address book. I have not tried it either and hopefully won't ever have to, but as easy as it is to do I thought it was worth passing on....Mark
