: Do we have to re-register - and lose our old names??

The log-in doesn't recognize my old name and password, but won't let me re-register with my old name and password - do we need to pick a new one? If so, that sucks because I was just getting to know who some of the these guys were.

i didn't have any problem using my old name and password... i know a lot of people were complaining that their hotmail address wasn't good enough for the registration either...

I'd be very interested to see a response to this thread from the MC administrators. It seems like very poor judgement was used if no attempt was made to transfer the old, established usernames to the new system. This is totally doable - the amount of effort may vary, but it is definitely doable. If you ever go anywhere in life today and you are asked to give registration info for something you've already given (i.e. dr and dentist offices), complain! They need to hear that this is senseless. This is totally unnecessary to re-enter the same info that "they" already have. In the case of MC, some established usernames my have been taken by others so we may need to re-learn who everyone is. This is just plain stupid if you ask me. Dave Dawson (formerly "bucktail")

OK, let me try to explain this to you.

The old message board script and the new message board script is not compatible.

It would be like trying to import a database that was created in an early version of lotus into a later version of Access.

It won't go, it won't work, it's not compatible.

Like trying to update the GPS waypoints from a Lowrance to a Garmin, you cannot do it.

There should be no reason your old names cannot be registered here, if you have problems email either myself at scott@walleyecentral.com or Jim at Snowbound22@webtv.com

We'll do what we can to make it work.

This is a much newer, more powerfull script with better security.

Let's give it a week or so, if the majority want to revert to the old board we can always do that, but let's give it a try first.

That is only fair.

(and, I'm not stupid)

The compatibility of these "script" might not be natively compatible, but there IS a way to export the old data from any database and then import it into a new database. It may not be a straight-forward proposition - programs may need to be written - computer consultants may need to be contacted - it's just not a big project. I suppose most folks aren't computer literate so it's easy to try to snow us by saying, "Nope, it can't be done." But it's time someone with a little computer related background tries to explain.

Please don't confuse my comments by thinking I'm opposed to the new system. Functionally it seems quite good. I'm just disappointed about the need for unnecessary re-registration.

So, can I take this as a volunteer to do this work?

It's definately over my head but you seem to know how to do it and I'll sure let you do it.

Just let me know and the job is yours.

I'm not a computer programmer.

Holy Sh%t , you have to beat the Walleye central
moderator/system admin. with a 12" Reef hog to figure out you have
to re-register.

Mother, that is twice I've seen that post, so just for your personal information: I'm not the Walleye Central admin/moderator.

I own Walleye Central and Muskie Central.

Just so you know who I am, that seems important to you.

Scott, It has been said that the only humans who welcome change are wet babies. Please forgive all the complaining. You've got a great thing going with the Central boards.
Now to my problem. I get numerous java script error messages on both boards with the new system, using and old version of Netscape 3.0. They occur when I open a thread, and go from 6 error messages to "too many java script errors". This makes me click a dozen times before I can move the screen. Too much frustration, I'll really miss you guys. m

Thx for offering me to volunteer, but I'm afraid I'm not the guy for the job. I am a sys admin in a med-size shop supporting a variety of operating systems and hardware, but I know very little about web-based support. I've done some programming in the past, but I'm not really a programmer. I have several programmer friends and am aware of what programmers are capable of. Converting username databases is definitely something that can be done. I'm just not the guy with the expertise to do it. Sorry. That's why in one of my posts I suggested contacting a computer consultant - I'm sure someone out there (probably someone who reads Muskie or Walleye Central) could have helped us. I think it's a little late to consider converting them now, don't you? I wish I could be more help.

Hey Mikie,

Is it possible to upgrade to Netscape 6.whatever? I am not real techno savvy with the down deep details of programing, but it seems to me I read somewhere once before that it may indeed be an incompatability issue between the new boards script and the older version of Netscape.

Hope this has helped...........R

How come now I am just a "Guest User" after being a "Pro" on the old board. It doesn't even say how many times I post anymore or the original date that I joined up like it used to say.
