I saw what appeared to be a new lure at Thornes yesterday which was labled a Maina "Doc" on the tag (no card in the container) and appears to be a larger size Jackpot with a little extra rear weighting. Looks sweet, but has anyone tried them or does anyone know anything about them?

The Doc is a new lure from Musky mania it is a plastic walk the dog type lure. It has one small rattle, we have been using prototypes since early spring and have caught many fish on them. I prefer them over a jackpot because they are plastic they last longer and have better hooking precentage.

i've thrown them and liked them alot. we moved fish on that weren;t painted yet...they push more water than the jackpot, which i think is great, and i have a box of jackpots. to me it looks like it will be easier for the fish to hook up.

Does anyone know when "Doc" will be available at Bass Pro Shops in Gurnee? If not, would I be able to order it from Thorne Bros off the internet? Any help is appreciated.

I thought wood lures had a better hooking percentage over plastic?

Actually Jeff, I've found that plastic lures have a better hook-up rate than wooden lures. With wood, the muskies can (and do) sink their teeth into the wood, so now when you set hooks, you have to break the lure loose from the fish, then sink hooks. I've got an Undertaker and several other wood lures that actually have teeth broken off and stuck in the lure.

With plastic lures, teeth don't usually sink in, making it easier to get hooks set.

But that's just my opinion,

Sounds a bit like a super DUPER spook. Am I on the right track? If so, be the answer to my prayers...

I've got a couple of the unpainted proto-types and they are pretty nice. They are a slightly larger plastic version of a jack-pot with a rattle. Very easy to work, and the fish seem to like them.
