Slip Knot

I have a couple of questions concerning leaders. I have been having problems with putting the snap swivel through the eye on the bait. Should I be using a split ring on them if they dont have them? Will this cause problems with the way the bait will run? Second question is what type of leaders (wire-titanium)do you use for the different types of baits - crank, jerk, spinner and surface. Which ones are lighter than others? What about the lengths?
Thanks...Bill

For trolling I use a piece of 80# stren high impact in about a 3 to 4 foot length. Jerks i throw a stiff wire leader, and on surface i throw a titanium leader. the last 2 are in the 12 to 16 inch range. as for your problem with putting on the snap, if you are having problems. I'd switch to a duo-lock snap. they are easier to work with. As for your split ring, Take it off. although it won't hurt. the split ring is just one more piece of hardware that you might have to worry about breaking during the heat of battle.

I use 6ft florcarbon leaders for trolling and 18" titanium for casting. Cut the snap off and split ring directly to the lure & leader. When you get that hog on you won't have to worry about the snap opening up on you. Sure it takes a little longer but it will help in the long run. I use Bucher and wolverine split rings.
Just a suggestion
