Has anyone ever used these reels, or heard anything about them? I am considering purchasing one, and needed some advice.

I got one for my wife to use, but traded it in shortly after fo a more traditional Abu. I think that the reel was just over matched for musky fishing. It didn't cast musky lures real well, and didn't feel nearly as solid or smooth as the tried and true reels. Actually I have yet to hear a real positive report about the Eons. But they look cool and a lot of the ideas will certainly be used and improved upon in the future, I would bet. But I would suggest holding off, if for musky.

Don't get it! Get the ABU 6500 or 5500. A friend of mine has the EON, and was giving hime problems this summer. Too many little parts to go wrong on the reel, and there is way too much plastic in that reel. The 5500/6500 are proven reels that will last forever. If money is not an issue, the Shimano Calcutta is sweet. But you can get a St. Croix rod and a 6500 for the price of a calcutta!

I have an Eon 5600 that I WAS using as a bucktail reel, I liked the high retrieve ratio, but the pawl took a dive after only 5-6 hours of use! That reel needs some re-engineering.
