The phrase I believe has deep roots in the south side and is correctly stated as "over down by der". Used in a typical south sider vernacular - the best dern beef is at Portilios over down by der NAPA parts store.

Portillos is sacred ground. You find me a better beef, not cheaper, better. BTW - that was an isolated porta potty incident. :(

Portillo's is good, but Gold Coast Dogs in Union station has the best Hot Dogs!!!

The best beef I have ever had is on ogden just west of harlem ave. I forget the name of it but it beats portillos. My office is right next to hooters is downer grove which is right across the street from portillos so I am very familiar with their food. Great place to check out the chicks at lunch time.

Anybody ever eat at Koozy's at the corner of harlem and 87th street. It's harley davidson meets hooters. Hot biker chicks in short skirts and biker boots. Can't beat that.

Zippies is better than Portillos!!

Pops Beef is the Best On the South Side!

Mr. A’s in Crystal Lake has the best beef. Those beef-n-cheddar croissants from Portillos aren’t bad either.

Hey, no kidding? I work near Ogden and First, not to far from Harlem. No idea what the name of the place is huh? It'd be cool to give it a try.

My votes:
Best beef is Mr Beef on Orleans st hands down.
Best Chicago hotdog is Byron's on Irving Park on the northside, or U Dawg U in Skokie Il.

Darren, we got a 30" northern on petite and a 30" musky on catherine. That beef place is on the south side of the road on ogden just a few blocks east of harlem. I met up with a co-worker there and they have great beef sandwhiches. He would know and I will ask him tomorrow.

Rueland's catering in aurora has good italian beef too and their chicken is out of this world. They also have a resaurant in boulder junction called rueland's granary restaurant and their food is out of this world too. So is the one daughter that works there.WOW!
