Well after a year of losing big
fish I went out and bought a new
rod.
Proceeded to catch a 30", then a
32, then a 34.5 and then a 49" --
over 30 lbs.
Thanks to all for your inspiration
and knowledge. All the tips really
paid off, for me and the fish.
It was clip clip with the bolt cutters
(a discussion I read early in the
year inspired that purchase), three
quick photos and then back she went.
Also thanks to my brother for getting
her into the boat. My new net was way
way way to small, guess a cradle is
next.

Congratulations on the 49!

If your net is to small, you might want to look at the big Beckman or Frabil nets. Cradles can be difficult to use, especially if you are by yourself. The big nets make it easy to keep the fish in the water and do the hook removal and measurement there. Just use them like a big live-well. It sure makes for a good, quick release and then you're back casting again ASAP.

Good job and hope you catch another hawg soon.
