Hello to all:
I have been messing around with leaders that i use when trolling
and was wondering what the best leader is hand made or store bought?
I also am thinking about a dubro Musky leader kit from R&H.
Am i waisting my time with this kit ?
Should i be using 7 strand or even flurocarbon and what pound test.
Thanks for your imput

Personally I like to use a three to four foot leader made of Strens High Impact 80# test
I Make my own and have been using the same two leaders for about 6 years now. I make them with crimps.
I'm not saying that other things don't work but, I know of guys who have Flourocarbon leaders and one guy is constantly breaking off. Whether he's casting or trolling
Other guys are also using flourocarbon and saying that if the muskie rolls in my leader it's gonna break.

Time and Time again I prove them wrong. I look at it this way...I would rather spend 10 to 12 dollars on a 50 yard spool of High Impact leader than what they spend on the Flourocarbon. I still have the same spool of leader matterial and they go through spools of flourocarbon like underwear.
It's just a matter of preferance. I've never lost a musky either...They lose'em all the time

Just my .02cents...Lord knows I have it to spare after not buying flourocarbon.

I make mine out of 60 or 80lb. flourocarbon. I have not had a leader broken by a fish yet. I make mine three feet long and I use crimps. You can tie the 60lb. but it's a major pain.

I use seagar which I get from cabelas. Bass pro has some but it's not totally clear which makes me think it's not all flourocarbon. I just got some 80lb. from them today. Looks like it's pretty tough. I troll with 20lb. and it works great for that purpose.
