How many of you guys/gals think west wind is the best bite and if it is blowing east you might as well pack it up and go to Dairy Queen?

MuskyGal,

To be honest with you, whenever I get the green light to go ski' fishin', I go. It doesn't matter what the weather is like. (Except lightning) I feel that no matter what the weather is like, there is always a fish or two that are in a positive feeding mood.

I go when I can, but have definately noticed more fish in the boat when the wind is out of the west.

Wind from the west, fish bite the best,
Wind from the east, fish bite the least,
Wind from the north, don't venture forth,
Wind from the south, right in the fishes mouth!

Having said that, I've had my best luck (for any species) when a north west wind blows.

winds from the east brings out the beast
winds from the north, lunkers come forth

Here in the midwest if you have an east wind you generally have a bad cold front. That probably has more to do with it. It could possibly turn on other structures not normally affected by the wind which may not get fished or be all that productive most of the time.

I love a south wind. Like yesterday.
One fish. 44 to 46". But north east
winds seem to work great too. Just
as the wind starts to pick up the
big boys come out to play.

My best luck is usually when the wind is from the SW. The worst times are when the wind shifts to the NW or north after a strong cold front. But, like Jim said, I fish when I can. A person never catches fish with a dry line.

Good fishing.
