Heard so many good things about the Wiley baits. Bought my first one 2 weeks ago....great action and nice trolling depth but one problem. The bait is cracking down the center. Does anybody know if it has through wire construction?? It does not seem to...looks like the hook mounts are just screwed in?? Of course that is where it is cracking. Anybody with same problems?? Any resolution??

I got one a few years back and I saw the same problem. I used it to troll one day and I pulled it in to get the weeds off and i saw the split and it was hard to tune due to the fact that the small screw that holds the bait together was extremely loose. I tightened it but it just kept on loosening. Needless to say I havn't used it since then. I'm probably gonna give it to a friend of mine who loves wiley's. I'll stick with my Bagley's E-Z, Super shad rap, and Swim whiz.

No doubt about it, Wiley's are great baits! That said, since they are made of wood they can split from time to time. They do use screw eyes and not through wire construction. I've had one bait show signs of cracking. If you contact Dale Wiley, Elwood City, PA I would think he would replace it for you.
