I've never used a sucker to muskie fish before, never even heard of it as a matter of fact until I found this board. Where do you get the suckers to fish with? catch'um yourself? buy them? how do you hook these as well.
I know most of you probably answered these questions a thousand times already, but please do it for me just one more time :).....and by the way, does the site have a "search" function where you can look up old posts?? ....so I don't have to ask these stupid questions :+

You can pick them up at just about any bait shop in musky country. Just ask for musky suckers. They're usually a couple bucks, depending on the size you want.

DR, Make sure you get quick strike rigs or circl-hooks so you don't injure a fish. The old swallow rigs always kill the Muskies if they swallow the sucker. Good fishing.

Duane, we can catch them in the Roanoke river here below the house + I have quick strike rigs too! I'll e-mail you if I can ever get away from the office.....plus I got plenty of baits that have seen the water LITTLE this year...:)

The suckers you get at the bait shop are hatched and raised, just like the rest of the minnows, leeches and crawlers. They are highly trained to seek out a musky and invite it to chomp it. The musky obliges nicely.

Fishing with suckers is a great insurance policy. I have had multiple fish days on suckers when I never seen a follow let alone catch one on an artificial.

As said before use a quick strike rig. Once you learn the system you then may want to try a circle hook.

Where do you live? Suckers are not to readily available in the south. Ask your local baitshop if they can order them for you?

what do these quick-strike rigs look like? I use a rig with two trebles about 4-5" apart which I place in one flank and an adjustable (I fix it by means of a small plastic tube) double-ryder hook which I use to keep the fish attached to the rig. I hook one of the two single hooks (they are 180° apart, one is smaller than the other) through the two lips of my deadbait. I strike straight away as my float goes under. Is that what you mean?
