What is the best way to run a boat in bigger waves? say from the 4 foot breaking whitecaps to the big rollers?

Nose up when heading into the waves.... and precise throttle control so you don't overtake the big ones when surfing downwind with them. Quartering into them can be tough and almost impossible at times. Play it safe and plan a route where you are heading into or downwind. And ALWAYS wear you PFD in rough water.

make sure you never, I mean NEVER, get caught with your boat's flank towards the waves. You'll be up and over before you know it. Also, if your boat doesn't stay afloat when it is filled with water, don't go out when there are big waves. A friend of mine witnessed two anglers drowning in the winter on a river. They were coming in due to the bad weather and their boat's nose dove deep into a wave and it filled up in an instant. They were found some miles downstream. Also several boats get turned over when trying to motor between waves and not head first into the waves. A warned man is worth two we say over here. Just give less gass when you are on the top of a wave and give more gass when you are going to the top of it. It is dangerous to motor at high speed over the top of the waves.
