An old friend of mine has these on his boat--seemed like a pretty slick system. Would like to get some for my Lund 1700 Fisherman. Anyone know how to contact them or know of any dealers in Northern Illinois?

Do a search for Bert's Custom Tackle. They are very nice products.

I sure can't make it work. They had a nice web site but I can't pull it up. Anyone able to find it??

I use the Berts on a 1800, and highly recommend them. I bit more pricey investment than others, but they are stainless steel, removable, nearly indestructible, and will last the life of the boat. On each side I put the 17' rail down the gunwale with a 6" rail turned sideways behind that. This let's you run one holder straight off the back on each side and 2-4 more off each side on the 17" rail. They also sell what I call a blocker. Screw one of these into the outside of each rail. When your running across the lake, the thumbscrews can come loose on the rod holders and sploosh goes a $65 rod holder! The blocker will keep them from falling out if they get loosened up. (This was learned the hard way, there is a Berts rod holder somewhere on the bottom of Lake Erie)

I don't know where you can get them in N. Illinois, but Gander Mountain carries them here in Ohio. A google search shows up a lot of places selling them via the Internet. Berts web page is:

Their web site was: www.bertscustomtackle.com, though it doesn't appear to working now. They are an excellent product (have them on my 1800 also) You can find them at Cabela's, and if your are in the metro Detroit area Lakeside Fishing shops have them. Also, I do not believe that the www.gmi.edu site is their official web site as it is Kettering University's site (old General Motors Institute). Both Cabelas web site and Lakesides site have shots of Bert's equipment.

I do know they are avalable at Cabela's and other outlet store's. Fishermans Wharf in Pt.Clinton has a nice supply but they are closed for the season.

There's going to be a new line of "The Original Bert's Rod Holders" coming on the market soon. That's likely why the web site is not working. He'll be at the Silverdome Boat Show at the Pontiac Silverdome at the end of January. You can see him and his complete new system in the Chapman's Sport Center Booth.
