Hey guys,

Does any one know why or what would cause my boat to be making strange noises? It started today. I was trolling when I noticed the depth finder going on the blink. After awhile, it said high voltage. I thought- cool, I'd just charged the battery and figured it was staying "full" from trolling. Then it just wouldn't work right. Anyway, what was more troublesome was the sqealing sounds comming out of the trottle deal where you turn the key. It got really high pitched and annoying. It's a 1990 140 hp Johnson. Any ideas? Please respond before I take it apart and never get it back togather.

Thanks Much,

BJT

I don't claim to be a guenis when it comes to out boards but it sounds similar to something that happened to me a while back. What was wrong with mine was the altenator, it has bearings in it that froze up. That caused overcharging of my batteries and shut all my electronics off taht were wired to that battery, but the motor stayed running just with a real load squeak (very annoying). I took mine to a dealer, but you can probably pull it off and take it in for them to test it.

Hope this helps
