How have you Minnesota boys done during the gun season? How about the Bowhunters? Are the Wisconsinites starting to have sleepless nights in anticipation? We got a 5 point and 2 doe's. Stopped counting how many we saw when we got to 50. Almost all doe's. The Rut just hasn't seemed to kick in up here yet. It's way too warm for my liking. Hoping to repeat on the 10 point and 8 point that my brother and I shot last season. They are looking down at me every morning from the wall and laughing at me. Got one more weekend to shut them up. ;)

So far I have arrowed an 8 and a doe, and am eagerly awaiting the Wisconsin Gun Season this Saturday. I have my 7mmMag Winchester featherweight sighted in 2 high at 200, so I am basically, with the drop compensator on the scope, point and shoot at any range from 100 to 400, my longest shot here.

I have been after a Booner 12 all fall, and am looking forward to the season, and perhaps a chance at him from 300 away...

I hunted deer with my family on the MN opener in central MN and we filled out all nine tags the first day with relative ease. We ended up with five does and four nice bucks. I shot a doe and two bucks from my stand by 8:30 in the morning. The two bucks I shot were a mid sized eight pointer and a very large nine pointer that is going on the wall. My wife is thrilled.:)

Fishing and hunting are funny. I fished for Muskies a fair amount this year and with only moderate success - my best fish was just a 43 incher. And then I have a trophy buck on the ground just twenty minutes into the deer season. I suppose a person just has to stick at it and eventually one will get lucky at something, eh?

Good fishing and hunting all.

2) 170 + Booner (bow shot) that I shot high. Hopefully I will find it this weekend!!!

Been watching a scrape from the upper deck at the edge of the woodline in the backyard....put in some Tinks but he's only coming out at night....1 bow doe 2 weeks ago...no hurry as meat is the goal first + we have through Dec. to hunt here in VA. There is a 14P in the area bro + I are staking out + hope to procure before the season is out....will go Fri./Sat. 1/2 mile behind the hooch to hunt the "##### Hole", a VERY steep half moon shaped ridge that is sheer thicket but contains primo bucks if you can catch them coming back from the creek....weather looks to be in the mid 70s so there will be little movement!:(

Rik,

"1 bow doe 2 weeks ago"...Sounds like the beginning of a great deer hunting song. :)

Jim,my take on the deer situation is during warm weather rut the breeding season seems extended and most activity is nocturnal!Without the cold weather and decreased light you don`t seem to see that FEVER PITCH of massive daylight movement. In other words it SUCKS!My deer numbers are way down, last night a doe brought a buck out at dark but presented no shot!(it was really late)my early bow season ended!Gun saturday!Jeff
P.S-On a side note I used to be a registered user,now I`m a guest?Wuz up with that?

Well, for our party of three we saw no bucks to speak of. Kind of ironic that the only deer we killed was with the truck on the way to the strip club!

Jeff,

I agree with you about the warm weather effects. When we switched over to the new board format, everyone (including myself) had to re-register. Just go to the Lobby and in the middle/upper right corner there is a prompt to register for new users. It's good to see you and B420 posting here again. :) B420, you gonna stick around awhile and register too? :)

Write the song Jim....I'll sing it! Handy is right....weather is in the 70s here + normally we are busting bucks right + left but I passed up a 6er on Monday + am wondering if I screwed up! I'll go again tomorrow + Sat. then rifle season starts Monday + a cold front is supposed to slip in.:)

Good luck Rik. We're not getting a cold front until next week. That's after the gun season ends in my neck of the woods. :(
Jeff, have you tried logging in with your old password? Try it and see if it works.

Jeff,

It was a shot in the dark. If that didn't work I was going to tell you to try one of the Psychic Hotlines and see if they could help you. B420, glad to hear you will be around. :)

Been too warm . Very little movement. I should have been fishing .
Since I hunt only a few miles from Lake Vermilion ,my time would
have been better served on the water than in the woods.
Opening weekend we got a nice doe , I missed a decent doe - I
watched for more than a half-hour with out ever seeing the whole
thing , other than a patch here and their. I took my best shot
opportunity . Clean miss , she bounded a couple times and then
turned to see what the #### was going on . She then wandered off
none the worse for wear.
This past saturday I'm back for more punishment - too warm again !
but I push on . Saturday A.M. no luck - take down my buddies stand
and haul the Iron platform out - funny that I get this honor.
Back to camp for a little lunch and college football !!
Into the woods I go for the afternoon hunt . As I approach my stand area I start looking for my landmarks - big V of two deadfalls,
turn right - follow blowdown , look for big rock , find bigrock -
look-up and their she WOULD BE --- BUT NO some knuckle-draggin'
inbred woodhick weasel stole my stand . Who has the stones ?
People everywhere packin' Hi-powered rifles and this cretin,
sees my stand , investigates the stand , probably shoots a deer
from my stand and then cuts the CABLE locking my stand to the tree
after he sees it is locked and yet still steals it.Funny the F'n
knuckle-draggin'inbred woodhick weasel leaves the screw-in steps,
Go figure ?
Stealing a stand in the middle of the woods from the middle of
nowhere ! Thats just cold-blooded and cruel.

I'm left pondering the inherent goodness of man ?
I try to give everyone the benefit of doubt . I've never been
paranoid. I leave gear in my boat all the time , I don't lock
my truck when I run in and out of stores , ##### I can't remember
the last time I locked my doors at home , except when I'm out of
town. What is wrong , just battling through life is tough enough,
much less having to physically lock, bolt down and worry about
everything you own through one's hard work .

Mother

ps. Good luck and God bless , and to all a Happy Thanksgiving.

Mother,I have had the same troubles in the past and have found a remedy for those _ickless wonders!A cam-alloy chain and lock! The pinheads will need a torch or cut the tree down! One season on our own private land I lost 3 stands and have not lost one since! You do know that a stolen stand yeilds NO DEER!Better Luck!
