I heard of a tale - somewhere in the upper peninsula of Michigan, I think in Haiwatha national park - concerning a giant pike or muskie responsible for attacking humans. The fish is supposedly 200 pounds or so.
Is there any water worthy of a fish that size up dere?
If someone can confirm this I'd like to hunt the fish.
Thanks, an Ole Timer.

This story probably came from a book called The Life of Hope by Paul Quarrington. Also check out Fishing with my old guy, also by paul.

Both are great funny stories.

but unfortunatly the life of hope is fictional

There are always tall tales and they do make for good humor. So, what would one use for bait on such a fish - a lawyer or a politician?:)

But when I hear the word "mossback", I think about big snapping turtles. I grew up along a small river in central MN and we often had trouble with snapping turtles. They would come right up into the yard and farmlot and posed a serious danger to curious children, pets, and farm animals. A 20 lb snapping turtle can take a persons finger or toe right off and can seriously injure dogs or farm animals as well. Growing up, I killed many turtles and some were over 35 lbs. Those big ones have a huge head and could about take a persons hand off if one isn't very careful. When they bite down, they don't let go.

Snapping turtles exist in most lakes, rivers, and streams in the upper midwest and can grow to be very old and to well over 50 lbs. I now live in a suburb in the Twin City metro and there is a pond right across the street from our house. And on more than one occasion I've had to seperate curious children from snapping turtles. Why some kids have to run over there and start poking them in the face I have no idea.

Good day.
