I am looking to buy a radio to keep in touch with other fishermen at places like Pymatuning and Erie. Are the radios you guys use CB's or what? Is there a special type I should look for?
Thanks a lot, Steve.

What you need is a VHF radio. I would get a fixed mounted one, not a handheld. Also you will need a good antenna, the longer the better, I use an 8 ft shakespere. Also you will need a antenna mount, I would get a metal one, although I have a nylon one thats holding up fine.

Brands to look for are: Raytheon, Icom, Uniden, and Standard Horizon.

Also be careful where you mount it to minimize interference from your other electronics.

the vhf radios are used on the lakes like erie, but most of the guys fishing inland lakes in ohio use a cb there, but an inexpensive handheld cb radio will work on pymatuning with no problem. good luck and good fishin.
