View Full Version : All Star Vs. G Loomis
I was at Cabelas today, looking for a new jerkbait rod. In the past, its been G-Loomis since day one, so I figured it was going to be between their 6'3" and 6'6" jerkbait rod. Which one would you guys suggest? I got talking with one of the guys there about rods, and he suggested and showed me the All Stars. The Ex. Heavy 6'3" All Star seem slightly lighter duty than the Loomis', and was also a great deal lighter in weight. (a weight that would make a difference when casting big jerks for 14 hours straight) The guy also said that the All Star had a lifetime warranty just like G Loomis. For this type of equipment, I don't mind shelling out a few extra bucks here, but there is $85 difference between the Loomis and AS. Quality wise, is there $85 dollars difference between the two rods? Does anyone have any suggestions? Would I be paying for the Loomis name?
Thanks the help boys, its greatly appreciated,
MJB

I started using the 6'3" all star for jerks and switched to the 6'10" last year and like it even more. The lighter weight makes a big difference, plus the faster taper makes throwing jerks physically easier.
As far as the value in Loomis... I couldn't say, never used them. I am very happy with my All Stars.

A friend of mine has both Loomis' and one All Star. He only has one because he doesn't like it. He's been a Loomis fan for a while and just doesn't like how the rod feels. I'm sure its a good rod, just different from the Loomis. Its one of the rods that you never have a problem borrowing from him. There are plenty of people that like them though.

Hey there,
I started using All Stars 3 years ago. Some of their blanks I really like and some I don't. I think what makes them a great sale is the lifetime warranty. The best blank they make is actually the T38 - Flippin' Stick. This is supposed to be a bass rod but I have no trouble throwing Rad Dogs, bucktails and 9" Suicks with it. I would never throw a Reef Hawg or heavy bucktail with it. Some people will argue that Flippin' Sticks are terrible muskie rods but I have never had a problem with them.
I have 3 custom built Loomis rods and I like these also.

I've never used a Loomis, but I have several All Stars. I have been very happy with them. They are probaby the most popuplar rod in my MI club now after more guys are using them all the time.
They are a very light rod, and I love the action they have, very good casting rods.

Is All Star the brand name of a rod? Never heard of them. I have a few St. Croixs, and I love them. They are a little cheaper than G looms as well.
