What do you guys and gals think will be the winning lures on Erie in April of 2002? What have been the other top lures at this time on the lake in the past? Will jigs, spinners, crankbaits, or live bait take home the money? Will trolling, casting, or jigging be the ticket to success. I am asking because I would like to be prepared to fish the western basin this year also in April. Thanks to all who answer! JJ
John, you hunted out yet? We have to plan; spring is right around the corner. Ray

Fished in the PWT Erie tournament 2 years ago and trolling was the main pattern for most of the pros, trolling mostly cranks such as reef runners, deep thundersticks, and some worm harnesses on inline planer boards

I will say it will either be trolling crank baits (ReefRunner, Rouges,Bomber A's) or WormHarnesses on BottomBouncers. -Just my guess
The only thing that can happen to stop it from being won on cranks would be bad weather that drive the fish down. Then open water harnesses with meat will be important.

Where will the best fishing take place if is a trolling bite? Near the river or out on the reefs and around the islands? Trying to do some homework for next year. It is a long ride from Jersey to Port Clinton. Thanks to all who help. JJ

That is why pre-fishing is important. Water conditions, fish locations, etc. can change quite a bit in a day's time. You can always go back to previous years for general starting points, and techniques, but you will have to put together a pattern that is working for that particular time, and situation, when your on the water. Good Luck if your fishing the tourny, and be careful. The big pond is deadly in April. and if you never fished Erie in rough water, when it's cold, your in for an experience.

Experience says out by the reefs, or north of N Bass, but you never know when someone will come up with a better idea. Good luck.

Thanks to all for the info. I have never fished the Western Basin but have the urge to. I was thinking of going at the same time as the PWT so I might be able to meet some of WC members. Weather will play a big part in finding fish, I also figured with so many people out there I could be pointed in the right direction when I arrive. I always keep safty first so if it ever gets that bad on the lake, I stay home or close to the ramp. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. JJ
