My wife and I laughed out loud when we saw that on the news last night.

What a shame. Those fan's should be ashamed of themselves. I saw so many bottles thrown that missed the target. If they are that inaccurate they should have given their bottle to the next man. As for the officiating it was absolutely pittiful, and an embarresment to the N.F.L.. I hope Tagliabue has the Cahoona's to discipline these clowns.
After further review, post stands as written !!!!

I realize you guys are justing being funny but there is no way to justify throwing a bottle at the referee's, NO MATTER HOW INEPT THEY MAY BE! For them to go back and review the play AFTER another play was already run goes against the NFL's previously stated policy. The head official didn't even notice the replay vibrator until the quarterback was spiking the ball. Sorry. It was too late. The play was already ruled a completion and should have stayed as called and not been overturned. I don't blame the fans for being outraged. Their team was on the 9 yard line and ready to win the game. You can't endanger somebody's life by hurling projectiles at them from up in the stands. I've left many a stadium dissapointed with a call that has gone the other way but I've never thought of throwing something at a referee. It's still just a game. Let's not make it life and death.
Yes, this is a shame. I hope the national football league gets together and takes a good look at this situation. What I strongly recommend: ban all liquor from the game. Nobody has any business throwing stuff onto the field. These people should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of law. Ray

Yes, Super, I was just kidding. Of course it a shame, even a crime to do what they did. Hope my son didnt see they replay of how "adults" act!

Lets not take that far of a knee-jerk reaction! I agree that what happened was uncalled for. The people responsible should be prosecuted under the law as any instance that occurs. As for not allowing alcohol at the game, NO. That is not what caused the reaction. It was due to adults making juvenile decisions, not alcohol telling them to do it. Too many times it is easy to come up with an excuse to what made them do it. Let's face it, it was the individual that chose to make such a stupid decision, not because they had a beer or 20.
I am sorry but this is what takes away rights from all of us. How many thousands of games have there been where not a single event occured? One instance should not cause the banning of something. At least plastic bottles are required now. Maybe it should be changed to plastic cups, then they would have to throw things like shoes if they wanted to get it to their target. It would be pretty easy to identify the culprits since they would be wearing only one shoe! Lets here them try to explain that one!

The thing i cant belive is the browns owner and gm saying its not a big deal and they think this wont hurt cleveland at all. Ok im sure the nfl will jump up and sign Monday night or other nat. televised games in cleveland, its a disgrace to see fans act this way. As far as banning alcohol thats absurd these idiots would have thrown something else if they didnt have beer.OH well all the other games are just formalities now.Congrats steelers AFC central champs. My Dad impressed upon me as I was growing up that drinking alcohol was something for "responsible" adults. What I saw was far from responsible behavior. Banning alcohol or the sale of beer at games would really stink. If a legal aged person wants to consume a legal beverage, let them. Why should some irrational acts by a crowd at any sporting event ruin someone else's enjoyment of going to a game. You alone are responsible for your behavior. Don't blame it of the booze. Don't blame it on the rest of the crowd or try to justify it by saying it's the ref's fault for a botched call. Act responsibly. It's alomost too simple.
I don't grudge any man or woman a drink. I myself do not drink but I
am very selective on who I socialize with. Alcohol and drugs in our society is a very sensitive issue. I use to have season tickets to the
bills games but the crowd and booze discouraged me from going to the games. How would you feel if a slob in a few rows back half lit and throwing beer around and you got hit with it. You go to a hockey game
or a baseball game you don't see this kind of behavior. It goes to show what the national football league is made up of. Nothing but a
bunch of animals. No matter where you go alcohol is the problem. People don't know how to control it. So you have to get outside control in to help control them. Can I ask you a question? If you go to sporting events why do you need a drink? Can't you watch a game
with a clear head? Or do you need something to fire you up to act like an animal. I myself don't need alcohol for enjoyment. Ray
Maybe some of need a drink to tolerate self-righteous, holier-than-thou people who want to punish 99% of the population for the stupidity of the other 1%. The morons who threw debris on the field would have thrown coke cans or 7-up bottles if beer wasn't available. Maybe we should ban soft drinks too?

If that's the mentality we should take, then let's ban all food, drinks, everthing. Only allow one bathroom break per game, and you must ask permission to leave your seat. That's what I want when I go to the game, to be treated like I'm in kindergarten again.
This is such a typical answer for society these days, blame anything but the individual. It must be the violence on TV, it must be the gun that killed 22 co-workers, it has to be the loud music.....Step up to the plate and take you spanking like a big boy and quit blaming everything/everyone around you for your problems.

It's just not cleveland fans, it happen last night on monday night football. Also the bottles were plastic, not glass which allot of news media regret to tell everybody. The fans in cleveland are very strong for their team especially since they were so close to a playoff contention. But than again that doesn't justify them trowing garabge all over the place. IT could have happen in any stadium, so don't think that your fans are any better.
Good Luck!!
Tim FRick
Since this is a walleye site, I propose they only allow fried walleye to be served at NFL games. If you need a drink, the water fountains could have styrofoam cups next to them to get that fresh clean lake Erie water that makes Browns fans who they are.
Go Broncos!! (hey, at least we had the drive!, not to mention 2 Lombardis recently. See you next season on the gridiron)
PS - Sidenote ; See what happens when fans start something, same thing happened last night in the Big Easy. We tend to be a copycat society. Individually, we don't use our own imaginations or display self control at times. When we see something stupid we want to keep it up for awhile until it's stopped. I heard they arrested 12 fans immediately last night. If you want to waste good beer, you will pay!
Gentlemen, keep warm this ice season, cuddle up in the shanty with a Victoria's secret model in a fur coat! (real or artificial, it's a personal choice, and I am talking about the coat) (. .)

How many times can you $#@! a 70,000+ member group of dedicated passionate people before they retaliate? Remember Art Modell??? Remember the years without football in NE Ohio? I think the incident, although temporarily a black eye for Cleveland, will be a benefit to NFL football overall because they're going to re-review the instant replay rulings. And, no matter what they come up with, I guarantee you that something like this will NEVER happen again. Part of the probelm was the inexperience of the referee staff not letting the fans know what was going on as it was happening. It was a total FUBAR!! GO BROWNS!!
There was a reason football left Cleveland the first time.
Maybe Art was just taking the ball away from the bullies.

ART- Maybe you're right. The reason being that even though he had a sellout literally every game of the year, the stupid A$$ couldn't make any money. He's a businessman? Those idiots in baltimore literally handed him a franchise...and a huge wad of cash....then a superbowl. How are the ravens "super bowl champions" doing this year with very little changes in personnel?. Sucking toilet water, that's where! That team will be out of baltimore within 5 years and the Browns will have won a superbowl by then.

No I dont think it was right to throw beer bottles at people or players, but I for one can understand the fans flustration. First of all our team was taken from us because of money problems by the owner. It took years for us to get a team back, and it took years for us to get a coach that knows how to get the most out of the players he has to work with. This town is looking for any kind of winning team.If these same fans are also baseball fans you have to live here to know what sports fans in Clev.are going thru. How would you alsoi like to see your baseball team turned into a third class team.Your best players being traded for players from other clubs that arent even worth keeping.Just because the owner who paid to much for it now cant afford to keep it.Even the GM had enough sense to leave before the owner started trading players so his pockets can get fuller. If he cant afford the team sell it to someone who can.
Understand,=====The sports fans in Clev. are great fans, they have always been great fans, right now were just flustrated sports fans.
Rudy
I agree cleveland is a great sports town. I am from the buffalo area and the 2 cities are alike when it comes to sports. The 2 owners that voted to keep the browns in cleveland were from pittsburg and buffalo the rest voted to move the team. I know it wasn't cleveland sports fans throwing those bottles just a bunch of idiots. We have the same kind of idiots here in our ball park also. The buffalo bills managment is slowly going to no alcohol sold at the games. I think the other cities are going to do the same thing in the future. Now lets talk baseball I know how you feel about the indians I am a die hard indians fan also and I drive up to see the games also. I have been waiting almost 50 years to see the indians win a penant. I am tired of seeing the scum bag owner of the yankees win penants because his pockets are to big for the rest of the teams in the league to beat. It is players salary that is hurting the indians they are limited to what they can pay because they can't compete with the big markets. The only player I want to see stay in cleveland is jim thome and their short stop. I think they made a good move trading alamar he is past his prime but they do have some good prospects in buffalo that's the indians bread and butter team. They know how to develope players. Then the yankees come along and steal them. Ray
If you think you are hungry and want to see your teams win a championship look at buffalo. 4 straight to the super bowl and the sabers being robbed in over time a few years ago by a goal that should have never counted because the dallas stars payed out more money to win the stanley cup. Small market teams are done in todays sports world. Guess who is the best drafting team in football buffalo. Where do they stand now in the standings. free angency killed this team and I don't think you will see them play in buffalo 3 years from now either.

If anyone is throwing beer on the field it will have to be a Brown's fan. We know better than to waste good beer. Or any beer for that matter. The Pack clinches a playoff spot this week. Does anyone want to play them in the first round?!!!

Ray, if you would, please re-read my reply. Never once did I state that I went to a game to get totally blitzed and act like an animal. I preached responsibility in actions at the game, too. If I want to have a couple of beers at the game or race while sitting in the sun all day, I do. I also bring a couple bottles of pop for myself and my son. I'm showing him that a person can drink two beers and not turn into a raving lunatic that has no control over his behavior and intrudes on someone else's enjoyment of the event. In answer to your question; yes I can (and have) go (gone) to a game and watch it with a "clear" head. Never have I gone to a stadium type event and been drunken in public, so if I want to quaff a cold one during the festivities, please don't put your eccentric values and beliefs on the rest of us because of a few screwy animals you have run into.

Cleveland fans have been acting this way long before Art Model took their team away. Lets face it, rabbid football fans all liquored up are going to do this when their team gets a bad call. Geez...ya bunch of drunks, lets put things in perspective hear. Would you rather have an airplane crash into your "DAWG POUND"?

I think a lot of good points have been made here but there's still no excuse for what happened. How'd you like it if your kid was hit by one of those bottles?
There is no question that Cleveland fans are loyal but that doesn't excuse their actions at the recent game or their treatment of fans from competing teams that happen to visit. Coming from another city to watch a Browns game is dangerous. God help you if you cheer for the opposing team, or even worse if your team wins and you happen to be wearing their jerseys or shirts, etc. So-called Browns "fans" routinely throw beer and spit on other teams fans and outside of the stadium many have been beaten.
If this is the reputation Cleveland wants, so be it. The rest of the nation now knows the lack of control in and around the stadium and it would serve the ticker holders right if they suspended beer sales for a few games and arrested some of the idiots involved.
Lets face it, there will always be bad calls on the field and if action isn't taken against the fans, what's to stop a repeat, and next time it will be worse.

All i can say is that Cleveland fans would not waste beer!!! I sat overtop of the tunel where Jacksonville came in. I got hit with some plastic bottles but no beer got on me. See we know that throwing full beer is alchol abuse and that wouldnt happen!! Go Browns cause its going to be a long baseball season!

Those were not Browns fans - weren't they pitching hopefuls warming up their arms for the Indians open try-outs? I think I recognized John Rocker participating, but he had a good mask on.
And, after decades of watching fArt Modell publicly sling everything at the fans and the NFL, why act surprised now!
