Hey, this summer i was fishing out by the misissisqsippi, in one of my honey holes when i hooked into a 34 nch class musky. This is not to wierd but it was caught on a gob-o-worms. Anyone else have an experience with muskies attacking worms.

I've read or heard somewhere that they will hit worms, especially in the fall. I've thrown big SlugGos myself, but haven't had any luck yet.

It didn't happen to me but at the lake I fish this lady was fishing for panfish with a worm and she hooked a 50" musky! Thank God she released it:) That was very suprising to hear a 50" on a worm. I don't know if I belive that or not because those kind of people don't fish for muskys so they probaly think its longer than it is. Unless they measured it?

I know somebody who has caught a musky on a chicken liver. They work great on stripers so why not musky?

That 50"er was measured...I also hear of many people catching muskies on bass plastic worms, especially powerbait. They make big plastic worms (skinny ones, not like sluggos) that they sell in the smokey's catalog, probobly like 14-18", also in rollie and helen's they sell a 16" 8 ounch worm that is classified as a jerkbait. I personally hooked one of probobly 30 inches on a leech. I think it couldn't handle the movement of the leech.

I caught a 36 inch musky on a jig and leach with 6# line. Lots of fun!

How about fishing for sunnies with worms and hook a sunny and have a musky come up and crush the sunny, Does that count?
Good hunting,Jeff <><

During one of our company fishing adventures, we had a guy from Iowa, flipping 1/2-ounce, weedless jigs rigged with a 10" rubber worm, into the weeds and shallows of Northern WI lakes. He had three legal (36"+) in about 4 hours. He figured if bass would smack it, so would something with teeth.

This was in late October, mostly on breaklines just off the sand close to shore. Darnedest thing I ever saw fishing for muskies.

Caught my first musky, a 32" tiger, several years ago on the Chip fishing for walleye. Was using a 1/4 oz jighead with a half a nite crawler tail on it. Same rig also got me a 10 lbs walleye the next day.

Can you fish a nitecrawler on a 7/0 hook? ;)

Merry Christmas,

The Maryland state record Tiger was caught on a plastic worm. It was 49" long and weighed 29 lbs. 4 oz. It was caught in early February.

Lost a big Northern on a leach while fishing for smallies, so I am not surprised that a Musky would hit a worm!

I was fishing with my kids up north on the dock after dark for walleye. I had a fuzzy grub with a piece of night crawler on my middle son's rod under a lighted bobber. All of a sudden that bobber streaks across the water like that bouy attached to that shark in jaws. I knew what it was and went to reel up and it broke the line above the bobber before I ever got tension on the line. Just like in jaws, we watched that bobber kind of hang out and move a little untill it just left.

I caught a mid 30 inch muskie fishing for walleye openimng day several years ago. It was a lot of fun on light tackle, but I don't recommend it as a pattern for muskie!

Merry Christmas to all!!!!!!!

Tons of people fish worms, so is it just a case that eventually a few muskies will be caught on them, and not that worms are really a good muskie bait?

For years the biggest muskie I'd seen live came when a neighbor was bass fishing a worm (49" and 31 lbs). Unfortunately it died.
Also caught a mid 30s fish trolling for walleye with a worm adorned spinner rig. Don't think I'd use it as an everyday technique though.

W.Va state record [weight] was caught by a lady fishing for bluegills with worms and 10# line in Stonecoal Lake. Seems to me that it was something like 49 3/4 lbs but am not sure. I've seen the pictures and I know the fish was fat and long. BIG FISH !!
