Was up at Bass Pro Shops last week, and saw the Lilly Tail finally(keep your minds out of the gutter!). I remember reading a post about that lure before, and I wasn't overly impressed with it! It had a small blade, a cheap looking rubber skirt, and only a single hook. Why the single hook? I think I will stick to using my ghosttails and buchertails.

The Lily Tail is a very good bucktail. The rubber skirt pulsates differently than a normal hair bucktail. Also, the single hook seems to hold better than a treble hook. The key with the Lily Tail is the thinner wire that the blade rotates around. That wire allows the blade to really produce a lot of vibration. Try it, it gives the fish a different look and may produce on heavily fished waters.

If you are uncomfortable with the single hook, replace with a treble. Better yet, use two singles that oppose each other.
I seem to recall reading an article years ago regarding research done in the UK on the success ratio of single hooks vs. double hooks vs. trebles. Interestingly, double hooks outshined even trebles for the highest hook-up percentage. The results of my experiments using double hooks (single hooks fixed in opposing directions) on Eagle Tails this past year was excellent.
Also, check the archives. There was a lot of discussion about Lilly Tails some time ago between the previous mfg. and some skeptics (can't remember which board). Seems like a good bait. Some guys use them w/ a lot of success on big fish in MN.

Great lure to get in the bulrushes with...Doesn't get hooked up, doesn't hold water, easy to throw and definitely, the puslating rubber is great!! Add a grub tail (like a texas rig style or exposed, and the lure will be even more weedless.
If you don't like them, it just leaves more for the rest of us.. :-)

Pets Maina and John Gillespie seem to do quite well with it in minnesota. Enough so that musky maina tackle bought the design or rights to produce it. That's in addition to their own bucktails. I do not yet personally own one but to me that says something good about the bait. I have seen them and they look like they would be great over the weeds and at night when you can't see what your fishing over just to name a few applications.

eagle tails have single hooks and according to muskies inc records over the years they have accounted for more fish over 50 inches then any other lure

A few years ago I was at the landing where my cabin is and Pete Gillespie was launching there too. He gave us a lillytail to try out. My very rookie partner threw it that day and caught his first ski. Since then I have used it some and had great results. It's very weedless and also worked well in the stumps down at cave run.
