In the Summer water the skis like the temperatures about 65 & 75 degrees.Usally by the time the water reaches over 85 degrees is where you usally see the beginning of summer slow down:( In the spring make sure you beware of all the temps the Warmest, Shallowest area, weed bearing flats is where you should fish.

I sure hope this helps

What is the colest water temperature that you have caught a muskie in?A friend and I fished Kanawha River in West Virginia yesterday and he caught a 41" muskie in 37 degree water on a Mepps Yellow Giant Killer. The muskie was a real fighter but was released quickly.Muskie Myers.

Charlie and I fished Kanawha River on the 5th and the water temperature had dropped 3 degrees down to 34.There was a lot of ice on the river so we didn,t get to fish all the spots we normally do.I seen a muskie attack a duck around a downed set of trees.Has any one caught muskie in 32 degree water. If its not frozen and you can work your lure you have a chance to hook a muskie.Muskie Myers

For me, the best time is when the water temps start dropping after Labor Day and especially when they get below that 65 degree mark in early to mid September. From then until the temps drop to the low 50s usually seems to be the best for me.

The worst seems to be right after a very hot period during the summer when the water temps just jumped several degrees. Seems the fish often move deeper and are harder to catch then. Well, thats the best excuse I could come up with last summer anyways.:)

I think that it varies depending on the time of year.

When the season first starts the water temps are usually around 60 degrees or so. At this time of year a nice warm day that pushes the surface water temp up rapidly seems to get fish going.

During mid summer when water temps are fairly high 70-75 degrees, either real warm weather that pushes the temperatures higher, or a cold front that drops the water temperatures seems to shut them off.

In the fall when water temperatures fall and the days start to get shorter it seems like falling temperatures get them going.

Water temperature seems to have a different effect on the fish, depending on the time of the year. It seems that some sort of change (either up or down) effects them the most. Usually colder is not good.

Don't ask any of those guys from Joisey. They don't know the first thing about the scientific part of fishing.

Muskie Myers: Before I submitted my question about temperatures on Kinkaid Lake I should have read your thread. Somehow I just did't see it.

I just went through it a few minutes ago, and it does look like there are some success stories even at temperatures below 40 degrees. That is what I was wondering, is if you get much below 40 what are your real chances.

good fishing.........jwl

JWL a guy in the Ohio Huskie Muskie Club Inc.stated he has caught muskie in 36 degree water and he said 39 was his favorite in spring and fall.I beleive you can catch them in 32 degree water as long as your lure will work properly I beleive one has a chance. We fished last Saturday and the water temperature had dropped to 34 degrees,we didn,t do any good but our spots were limited most of the day due to ice on the river.Let me know if break that below 36 degree mark.Good Luck Muskie Myers.
