This topic will get get some folks blood rushin', but to answer your question. I use a quick strike rig...Easy on the fish and no waiting to set the hook...Line goes, set the hook and the fish is fine!

Good Luck!f

A quality quick strike rig, like the Herbie or Maina rig will wok fine and you will have no problem releasing the fish unharmed. Quick strike rigs are just that. Don't wait to long to set the hook. What you want to do is get the boat in a good position close to the fish and reel slowly to apply pressure. This will get the fish to turn opposite your direction. When the fish turns away, that's when you want to set the hook, and set it hard. Try to break your rod (which I have done on a few occasions). When your fighting the fish try not to punp the rod. JUst keep steady pressure until you get the fish to the surface. As soon as possible get the net under her. Most lost fish on quick strike rigs shake the rig loose when they come to the surface and begin to thrash. I prefer to use at least a 7 foot rod for controling the fish,(preferably fiberglass)a quality reel with a clicker and good drag spooled with 40lb. test stren magnathin. Hope this helps you. I have put some really nice fish in the boat using this method.
