I HAVE TRIED MOST EVERY STORE AND BAIT SHOP AROUND!!! DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY BETTER IDEAS WHERE I CAN FIND LARGE FROZEN SMELT 8-12 INCHES??IM WILLING TO PAY SHIPPING OR WHATEVER I JUST NEED TO FIND SOME VERY SOON IN HOPES THAT WE WILL GET ICE THIS YEAR.THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HELP!!! BIG I WI

You can give these guys a try. They're set up for food, but they also sell undressed or whole frozen smelt. 5 lbs for $15.00. I can't vouch for the size, or the web site, as I haven't used them.

In my neck of the woods you can get them in the frozen fish dept. in any large grocer. It sounds like you've tried that, but that's where I've seen them (cheap & pleantiful!!!).

You deadstick them for pike I imagine?

I have switched from lake smelt to large bait haring, they work much better on big pike in my experience.

Most store smelt are small and low in oil content, borderline freezer burnt junk. Not even good cat food.

I order a flat of bait haring for $30 to $40, do insist on high oil bait quality haring if you order. I get mine ordered in to a fish market from the same distributor as the site listed above.

Good quality bait haring will out produce smelt 8-1 on big pike easy.

Don't know where your from, but Schwarz Fish Company has two locations in Sheboygan, WI. There is a retail store and a wholesale outlet. If you call, they should be able to get you whole smelt.
