Cabela's offers a similar product. It's in their Spring Edition catalog.

I do not know of one anywhere else and there probably is one.

I for one purchased the Rod Wrangler the other day and received it UPS last Saturday. It is a quality product. Though I have not had the chance to use it yet, I went and purchased a taper base for about $13 and made a stand for it for my office in the off-season to hold my rods. It is very well built, it uses the Berkley rod rack with the turn locks on the top. If something was to break, it would be the rod racks. If something was to happen to them, the part could be purchased at a local sporting goods store. I don't think it will since everything else is welded and looks nice with what appears to be a powder coated finish. I was looking into building one myself but after pricing up the cost of materials and labor to do it, $89 is a good price. I would highly recommend this product to anyone considering purchasing one. I do plan to add a little feature to the Rod Wrangler, I am going to install a piece to hold my landing net.

I was going to ask if the wrangler or rod holders could hold a landing net. I have not seen these personally. Do you slide your poles up through a small circle, or do they slide in a small groove, locking into place? A landing net handle won't fit into this? What would be the best way to make it so you could have your landing net in it?

The rod holders are the kind with the holes on the bottom rack and the slots on the top rack with a locking ring that you turn to lock over the slot. I hope that description is clear enough, I am not always the best at describing this type of thing. The ones I have seen Cabela's sell are just rod holders on the bottom which I would tend to think that the rods could sway on top and tangle together much easier.

I think if I cut away the foam insert that holds the rod in one slot, I could put my Beckman net handle into one of the rod holders. A person might want to find a way to lock the net so it does not spin around and tangle into the rods. I just hate to start cutting on a new product; however, it seems I do it everytime I buy something. Buy it, modify it, and then use it!

My other thought was to drill some straps into the end of the bracket, put a PVC clamp on the bottom and a velcro strap on the top. Still thinking about how I am going to do this but in my 2001 1775 Pro-V, I have limited options on where to put the net. I hate laying anything on the floor to trip on.

Description was clear to me. I have been wrestling with this problem too. I was thinking about just having PVC piping along the back of my boat, but doing that would take up more fishing area than having a rod holder of some sort. However, my biggest thing I want off the floor is the net!

Thanks for the information

To skis and Hawgeye, just a thought, what if you put a aluminum rail on the bottom of the rod wrangler to hold the net upside down and use a snap lock of some sort on the top of the rod wrangler.I don't have mine yet but I will be getting one and will probably put my net on it also.

Mounting a piece of PVC tubing to one end will probably work much better than hacking away the foam on the rod holder parts.

I bought my rod wrangler from Steve Messenger. Steve is the person that produces the wrangler. He is and always has been open to any suggestions to improve his product. If you truely want to come up with a way to mount a net as well as rods, give him a shout email.
messengers@cccusa.net. Tell him Doug Komrosky gave you his email.
