I am taking my first trip to the Kawartha region, more specifically, I will be staying at Irwinn Inn on Stoney Lake. I am going opening week for Muskies. Any tips such as location, lures, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Also, is there any good place to get a good map. I have use of a boat and motor there, but I can bring mine. It's about a 9 hr drive, so I am debating on what to do. I am sure that the Inn has 15-16' boats and I have a Fishawk 1750. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Greg Them

Hey Greg,
I went to Stoney lake 2 years ago,and what a awesome lake. You are going to need a map for that place, there are rocks everywhere. Bill Hamblin sells maps for the whole Kawatha region, his # is(519)576-6255 I can't remember what I paid for the maps but its alot cheaper than a lower unit. As for spots there, You should be able to pick them out with the lake map. When I went there I only spent 1 day at that lake and raise a number of fish in the weeds. But what I was told later on was that alot of the bigger fish hold on the rocks there. If your going to be there for a week than you should be able to work alot of different structure.
Good luck&Good hunting,Jeff <><

Stoney is a great lake and has good numbers of fish. watch for the rocks! its called Stoney for a reason. My best tip for early season is concentrate on new weed growth, find the green find the fish. For lures try spinnerbaits and small minnowbaits orr small jreks. Perch is a hot color.
best of luck to you please give us a report
