floating weeds & topwater baits

[THE FERD]

I'd love to use my topraider I bought last year but the the lake I mainly fish always has a lot of "floaters" on the surface due to high boat traffic .I'll get about ten feet into the retreive and it's gummed up with the floating weeds . Is there any tricks on using a topwater bait in these type of water ?
