I am looking for a new trolling motor, prefabally a Minnkota. I've been looking at the 12 volt 55AT. Is this a good buy? Should look more towards a 24 volt motor instead? Thanks.

Hands down 24 volt is the way to go. I've had both and would never go back to 12v . If you have room 36v might be a good way to go.

Just don't get a Pin Point or it may run you into a rock wall, right Tech ;)

24V is the only way to go. Don't go with the 12/24. I've had problems with my old one not drawing the same from each battery.

It depends on the size of your boat but if you fish in any sort of wind or find yourself wanting to in a situation, get the biggest 24v motor you can buy. 95% of the time you may not need it but when you do, you want it.

Go with the 24V system as will draw down the one battery system in a matter of hours if you are using your motor alot. The Minn Kota 55 will draw 43AMP per hour that boils down to only 2 1/2 hours of running time on a 120 AMP battery at full speed A 24V Minn Kota 65 draws 38AMP per hour that computes to 6 1/4 hours of ruuning time on 2 120AMP Batteries and get 20% more power.
