Here's some more ante muskie simular to the lake Miltona the no more muskie's group, only southern style. This appeared in the Lexington Herald-Leader Sunday edition. Not sure what to do, but more education is clearly needed.

Thanks for sharing this article DougJ!!!!
On a positive note, at least the article explained both sides... and in my opinion... actually more in support FOR the muskie.
I agree, however, that figuring out what needs to be done to address the issue is a little foggy. Any suggestions other than further EDUCATION?
If I guy refuses to acknowledge creel sensus data that shows the panfish population is thriving... how else do you get your message across to guys like that?

Our collective problem is that we can never influence those who have all the answers. I like to call it "tavern biology - don't bother me with facts, because I have all the answers." We have seen the problem before...and will see it again - from a Round Lake in Wisconsin in the 1980's to Miltona. These people refuse to consider that a numerous studies have proven that muskie don't thrive on a diet of panfish. What to do - I don't know either, although I never pass up an opportunity to make the case in my seminars. Ignore them - perhaps its the best reaction? However, this article was done well - giving both sides. At least our side was presented.

"Prepared properly muskie make fine table fare",,,,
This may not be word for word, but I know it's close to what's written in the KY. book of regulation...... also a fisherman is allowed 2 muskies over 30" per day.

First of all I would like to know where you got the data that says we have plenty of pan fish. In a public meeting with Kentucky Fish and Game biologist they told as well as give us written proof that crappie numbers in cave run are way DOWN. The white bass died out in 1999 as they and everyone who fishes cave run knows. All this contest is for is to draw attention to the fact that nothing is being done to bring back the whitebass and crappie. If 2800 muskies can be stocked in cave run every single year then WHY cant whitebass be stocked back in the lake. If not whitebass then a hybrid will do. That way the biologist can control the size of the population since the hybrids don't reproduce. We have a right to be mad, we buy liscense yet nothing we fish for ever gets stocked in the lake even when their number are down. They started stocking the muskies because they say they don't reproduce and they wanted more of them in the lake. No problem they should try to do the same for other species in the lake when their numbers are low. By the way I know of two muskies caught in January on cave run that were caught on live bluegills.

Monksville sport shop in N.J. promotes the same kind of behavior they have prevented Fish and game from stocking the lake and also condone the killing of musky. This is ironic because they stock a huge assortment of musky tackle. In fisherman listed them as a connection to find out about mukies in N.J. Thats just great maybe Doug could use his influance over there to make sure it dosn`t happen agian. I called and gave In Fisherman a ration of s--- even though I`m sure they were totaly unaware of the situation. AS far as white bass I was told by some so called bass experts that they were wipped out by muskies in greenwood that same day fishgraf and I landed 100+ whites in less than an hour the poblem is some people can`t fish and need something to blame. As far as stocking other fish I agree more needs to be done the walleyes stocked into greenwood are doing great despite the muskies why can`t bass and panfish be stocked when needed to make up for overharvest and a reduction in quality spawning habitat. Thats not to say I think there is problem with the bass or panfish population in N.J. but stocking a few bass and panfish could go a long way in appeasing the other side.
>White bass crappie and most panfish pop. run in cycles. So limit YOUR catch not catch your limit. I have seen the enemy and the enemy is me.
