My work travels took me along the west and south shores
of Mille Lacs today. The south shore has some rough looking
ice, about 100 yards out in places. The west shore is completely
open, no ice even along the shoreline. I saw one boat taking off
from the ramp just north of the casino. What a strange sight seeing
that one lone boat on the water and all the resort fish houses lined
up along Hywy 169 waiting to see ice time.
By the way, does anyone fish pike thru the ice on Mille Lacs? If so
what are some good spots and tactics? Maybe Vineland bay? Jigging?
or tip ups? Bait?
