This is not a Ford Vs Chevy bash fest, just my .02. I dragged skid steers around for a few years with my F250 SD Crew Cab 4X4 w/7.3 and thought the truck was fantasic. I got great mileage towing and driving, the thing pulled an 8,000 BOBCAT like it wasn't there and it had excellant road manners. If I had to say anything negative it would be the noise level, man that engine was loud. I know alot of guys get a chubby over "big rig" sound, but I had to crank the radio inorder to hear it. FYI My 93 Suburban just rolled 110,000 miles and when I get rid of it it will be with another Suburban. Good luck and have fun shopping-Eric

I just purchased a 2500 with the 8100 gas, love the truck, gas mileage isnt as bad as I thought it would be, has ample power and looks and drives great. Go with the crew cab, it cant be beat. I am running the 4:10 gears, wish I could have got 3:73 or so, but other than that I am satisfied with the truck.

Sell the '94? Your kidding me, right :)

Will we still be friends?

Seriously, though, I'm personally a GM kinda guy. No real reason, other than an oil pan rusting out on my buddies '98 F150.

Happy Holidays

Regards

P.S. Still need me to come over and help your wife put those lights up?!?

Gasoline V8 Autos The choice, therein, is open for recommendations. The majority of recreational towing will be a 16' Lund tiller, a 14' duck boat, a couple of sleds or a 4 wheeler. In the spring/summer I pull the skid steer around to drill holes for decks or the mini excavator for land scaping I would say that I am towing 60% of the total annual miles. I would rather lean towards the torque then the milage this time as the Suburban is a dog with the bigger items.

I know! Can you believe it? I just like the look of the F250's and a test drive was impressive. Don't get me wrong, I also like the new Chevys but I am being a little more open at this point. I might get disbanded from the wife's family if I roll into the in-laws with a Ford. Nothing but Chevys trucks at their family reunions

I'm getting tired of tying everything on the roof of the 'burb or fighting the back end. I want a bed. Why Chevy ever moved the spare inside at an angle will always escape me. I can only load about 3 3/4" sheets of ply or sheet rock before the spare tire screws me up. That and the fact that I have to climb into the back to get tools that are up against the back seats. (I have the tailgate style 'burb)

I dunno, Dave, I am just tired of fighting the power, the electrical and mechanical issues in this old girl. Starting to rust over the windshield and under the doors, the rear diff is whinning pretty good, etc, etc... She is a comfy ride still at 130,000....but when do you throw in the towel?

Three months ago I bought an F350 Crew Cab 4x4 with a V10. I love the truck. It pulls my 19' boat like it isn't there. Gas mileage, I can get as good as 13 and as poor as 10, but I didn't buy the truck for gas mileage either.

I would vote for the Chev, it will ride better give you better mileage and offer you the most power. I guess some of this will depend on the engine, if your comparing the standard 5.4 ford to 6.0 chevy it's no contest, chev wins in every department. Get the big gas engines, I'd still take the 8.1 chev, more power better mileage again. Which truck won motor trend truck of the year, pretty sure the chevy did?

when my 86 sub was fading away, i had the great idea to get a
pick up for all the "haulin". 6 months with the chevy extended
cab 4 by 4 and i was back at the dealership beggin for another
suburban. (it makes it hard to deal tough after that).

if i decide i have "haulin" to do i will get one of those ugly trailers made from a pickup box and pull that around with my wonderful
suburban.

i can put my otter fishhouse and everything else two people need
to ice fish in the back, when i get to the lake everything is dry
and clean and warm.

good luck with your mission aquaman, you really cant lose here.
its fun to buy a truck, and if that doesnt work out it even more
fun to buy a SUBURBAN

Look at won and drive one and you may change your mind about diesels. They are awesome and quite.

If you are working your truck hauling material and such a long box is the way to go. I am in the contracting business and you never see short box trucks working. Short boxes are great as a transportation vehicle .....do not have the space of a serious work vehicle IMHO.
I run a 3/4 Ton Turbo diesel extended cab long box.

I hear ya on the Long Box, Thumper, but with the tailgate down I get the full 8' bed. Since I have neither the room to park it in the garage nor the money to expand the garage, I will suffer with the short bed. Heck, It won't be the first time they called me shorty! ;-)

I like to drive my Chevy better, but my Ford (460) is a towing son of a gun! Both have been very dependable. From what I hear..the V-10 Fords really like to slurp fuel, so, I have not tried that engine.
I like the looks of both but...The GMC is best looking of all to me. Love that front!

Don't want to sound like I'm bashing, but I have a 2000 Ford f250 superduty and the doors out rusting out terribly. Thought that you should know. Also, Ford could care less...

I test drove the 2500HD just for fun this summer when shopping for a truck and it was awesome!!!! I decided on the 1/2 ton z/71 instead because I have no need for such a powerful vehicle. I test drove both the fords and the Chevys and Liked them both, but I like the ride of the Chevy better. I do know several people with the F250 and they are pleased with their choice. Either way you get a great vehicle.

It is a tough decision but my next vehicle will be Ford with the 5.4l, look at the hp and torque curve if memory serves me right the Ford is lower in the rpm range, I work for HVAC contractor in town here and we have both Ford Heavy Duty E350 and Chevy 1 tons, I drive a Ford with 5.4 l loaded to the hilt and I get approx 13to 16 mpg mixed driving, just had to put brakes in at 54000 miles I towed my 17 Lund home with it one day it pulled it like it was not there in O/D, our Chevys every one, brakes at 30,000 miles, and they have had more minor problems than our Fords. Not sure the difference between Chev vans and p/u . But I sure like my Ford. I know the feeling of trying to wrestle the banana away from the gorilla.

good luck and merry christmas,moreyes

I just picked up my new Ford F250 SD 4x4 last week. It has the crew cab and a full 8 foot bed. Black to match the boat. I seem to get good gas miliage out of it but the test will come when I pull my 18' Targa. My girl said it is way to big but with the 5.4 liter Triton V8 I think it will do the job. Already tossed a big doe in the back. A question I have is does anyone know of a place that makes a full size caps, but also has a sleeper compartment in it? Thanks to all who answer, and good luck with your truck in the future. JJ

If you ask a Ford man about a Chevy all he can really tell you is how the tailgate on a Chevy looks, and that from a distance. If you ask a Chevy man about a Ford all he can explain is how a Ford grille looks in his rearview mirror.I guess it all boils down to if you want to be a leader or a follower. ( easy guys and girls) My nephew drives a Ford 250 ext. cab 4x4 diesel and it is a nice truck. We pulled my 17ft.aluminum boat 1200 miles at 70 and 80 mph and never knew it was behind us. I drive a Chevy 2500HD with a work bed fully loaded and can honestly say it will do all I would ask of a truck and more.It gets 16 mpg around town, has plenty of power, and it will pull my boat with no problem. I've owned it four months and have already put 17,000 hard miles on it. One of the main reasons I hear for getting a diesel is how long the engines last, but I think if a gas engine is maintained it will also last a long time.Oh yea, I think Chevy is coming out with a bigger rear view mirror and a built in zoom because they have had too many Chevy owners complain that they can't even tell the color of those Fords way back there.
