I was following the thread on Gander Mountain and cannot find it. Did it disappear? If it did, did it become objectionable since yesterday???

I think it's because too many people said they didn't like the store.

I would hope it was for other reasons. I've always respected Walleye Central for being a place where individuals could express their opinions based on their experiences.

Scott? Can you shed some light here?

OK, here we go:

The post started off OK then some people had to get in there and start cussing even though the system won't let them they were using characters at the end of the words to let people know exactly which cuss words they were trying to post.

It went as far as to point out specific managers at specific stores and call them names and make remarks about their education level.

Opinions are always viewed as welcome, however when it gets to the level that we are calling out individuals and calling them names and making references to their IQ that it's time to go.

If we could just get everyone to keep from doing that we could have a great conversation and discuss opinions about problems in general.

That would accomplish the same end result without naming specific people at specific stores. Even though we didn't use their names, we said what store and what their position was. That is the same thing in my book.

After I trimmed out the excess cussing and personal slamming the post didn't make sense anymore since I was removing conversations in the middle.

It just seemed that the alternative was to nuke it.

Try to see it from my point of view.

Opinions are welcome and healthy. Slamming and degrading are not.

Does that make sense?

Scott,

Makes sense to me and I give you credit for the deliberation of content before distructo! This is your "yard". If "they" don't like it - "they" can sit and have a sobering moment!

Heck yea, it makes sense! I followed the post somewhat because I live near a store and like it, hate to see bad things happen there. But there is a not so fine line between fair critisim and attacking someone. I think you do a fair job at letting people speak their mind, Scott. Keep up the good work, anyone who doesnt like it, its a big cyber world out there...

When I started the thread I knew it had the explosive potential to degrade and get dusted. In my mind when that happens Scott dosent have an option. I sent an email to Gander Mt with my complaint and told them to stop off here and see the message I posted, hope they saw it. My intent was hoping they would make positive changes, if that were to happen I would also post that here, giving them positive publicity.

Thanks Scott, for the reply. I guess between the time I last read it and the time I noticed it gone, the thread did get out of hand. In that case, no problem with it being deleted. Up till that point, I saw it as a potential positive, letting some retailers know they were losing customers with their inventory problems. Heck, they might have even made some changes, which would have benefited everyone( including their sales too).
I have a relative who works there and also sees the inventory situation hurting the company's sales, and directly, their job. They woluld like to see someone higher up in the chain realize this and do something about it too.
Thanks for the explaination, it clears up a lot for me, and restores my faith in the WC board. Have a good holiday.!

You need to sanitize (in more than 1 way). It's good that these distractions disappear.

1) Remove the vulgarity and negative personal references
2) Pointed, direct bashing when no real message is apparent. There
is a fine line here I guess as to what's constructive observations
and what is a slam. Maybe drawing the line at third party knowledge
or something, what approaches possible legal recourse etc.

On the other hand, Tough Guy was a riot when taken in proper context.

Bottom line, you guys have a tough job, and as folks say if you don't like what you see go elsewhere. That works two ways.
