View Full Version : Lure Modifications
I know there has been a few articles on this topic, and some discussion on the boards. But what is your favorite lure modificationS (for specific baits), whether it be simply adding a larger treble or cutting part of a lip off.
Thanks,

Hi
Here are a couple that have helped me.
Take a bell sinker and attach it to the front snap ring. Use a sinker with a brass wire connector, not plastic. Along with making the lure run deeper, this will accomplish a number of things:
- Jerk baits become more neutrally buoyant and "hang" longer.
- The weight bangs on the lure creating a rattle.
Lastly, it will cast well without fouling.
I use weights from 1/8 to 3/8 ounce depending on the size of the lure.
Just about any bait can be modified.
Believers, Suicks(sp?) Rapalas, Wades, Jakes, etc.
Another modification is to place the peel and stick lead to the bottom back side of a "walk the dog" lure. Viper, Jackpot, etc.
This places the C of G (center of gravity) further back on the lure. It will enhance the action. Sometimes just placing a heavier hook on the backside is an improvement.
Hope this helps.
Thx

One thing that I have been playing around with for some time is Fudally's screw in weight systems.I use them on cranks alot.Been used around for jerk baits but their usefullness on cranks is very good.
It enables you to get the bait close to the boat in your trolling runs without loosing action.Keeps shallow running baits in tune when trolling fast and allows you quick depth on deep running cranks.Alternating the weight aids in staggering baits behind the boat.

Hey Marc
Are they the same thing as the old JB wieght system? They just screw into the bait.I use that type of system on jerk baits ,reef hawgs, eddie baits ,even suicks.I took a bait insert to a wood working shop ,and they ordered me a bag of 100 for about 10 bucks. But you still have to buy the screw in wieghts.
good hunting to all
