Has anyone else seen this?

I bought 3 new 6 inch Hawgs at the Milwaukee Expo this past winter. Used them for the first time Saturday and the two that I used cracked lengthwise. I assume the third will also.

I did not do anything unusual, they were not left in the sun or anything else that I could think of but the first one cracked within a couple of hours of using it.

I would like to contact Fudally directly but their website does not have an e-mail or a phone number.

Can anyone help out?

Thanks in advance,
Don Woznicki

I always think that the split ones absorb water and work the best. If you don't want them, I'll buy em from you.

The splitting is the result of uneven expansion as the wood absorbs water. Uniformly grained wood is tough to find, even within the same board, so you may find that you swap those Hawgs for 3 more which split also.

I went through a series of swaps with cracked Eddie baits about 10 years ago & the shop owner said that he was keeping the returns for himself. Finally tired of trading baits & kept using a cracked one. It was, hands down, the best glide bait I'd ever had & I only retired it when the crack became so severe that I worried about the leader eye pulling out. Have never found another Eddie to even come close.

Unless the cracks are a performance liability, I wouldn't let the cosmetic aspect trouble me.

The best one I've got almost split imediately. The fish don't seem to care.

I've used a ton of reef hawgs, a bunch of them have cracked. I pretty much agree with the posts above: no complaints. Cracking/splitting is par for the course with wood baits--the stuff changes when it's wet.

I had a couple baits by one manufacturer (not a reef hawg) that split really bad to the point I was worried about them falling in two, and the paint peeled completely off the first time they hit the water. That's the only bait I've returned for splitting.

I work for Fudally Tackle at the Expo's, I might have sold you the baits in Milwaukee. Mike does not have a computer so I usually try to answer for him. You can send me the baits (I will use them, they absorb water and run better than most) and I will get you replacement lures. You can e mail me at murph@fishingleechlake.com

Good luck, Murph

Thanks Murph for the offer, and everyone else for the opinions.

Wow, when you have some of the best musky people on the planet tell you they are better this way how could I give them up! I guess I will stand pat for now and check them out.

For those who want to buy them from me, the price just went up. :7

Thanks again for the opinions,
