I am not what you would call an expert muskie fisherman yet. I am new to the sport. We are going out tonight and I cannot decide between Bald Eagle or White Bear. I was thinking Bald Eagle because it is probably warmer, but someone told me it is already turning that pea green soup like last year. What do all of you think? Joe

Joe,

If I were you, I would go to Bald Eagle for just the reason you said. It is warmer. Last year, Bald Eagle was horrible as far as fish caught. This is the time to hit it. Concentrate around the island and in the shallows. If it was me, I would put on a medium to large spinnerbait with a white skirt, (preferrably a Raddog) and never take it off.

And by the way Joe, welcome to Muskie Central! :)

Thanks Jim, now the buddy I am going with said he is willing to go to Mille Lacs (Isle). We would lose about 30 minutes of fishing going there instead. What do you think?

Don't hesitate for a second. I would take Mille Lacs on it's worst day over those two on their best. A birdy told me that Mille Lacs is heating up right now. Be sure and downsize because hardly anyone else is. Lot's of follows and no takers.

I wish I could tell you what lake to fish 'cause I fish both lakes almost everyday and one of them has been hot! if you use the right presentation, but I'm not giving up my lake.. Use fall tactics and you will find big fish, lost a upper 40's boatside the other day and had 5 follows (all big fish) not to mention catching a 30" & 25" pike.
