Tossed a couple of bucktails and Bulldawgs today and I'm wondering how everyone works them? Just a plain retrieve or is working them with a jerk and pause productive? I'm still a newbie and trying to figure out how to use certain lures is tough in itself.
Thanks,

With bucktails I generally use a steady, medium speed retrieve, but also swing the rod tip from side to side two or three time during the retrieve, That maneuver gives an extra flare to the tail and seems to act as the trigger. If I've got a follow on a bucktail, I will usually slow down and let it drop 10 - 12 inches. Often that movement will result in the fishing nipping at the tail.
I regard the dawg as a subtle bait and work it slowly, up and down, side to side, trying to simulate a bullhead that is just nosing around without a care in the world. Other guys will retrieve them like a standard crankbait. The dawg is a bait with wide application, and you need to find the retrieve you're confident with. Good luck!
