View Full Version : Northwest Ontario Trip (Where to go?)
I am planning a trip to Ontario in July for Muskie/Walleyes.
Where would you go and why? I have been to Sabaskong Bay LOW and Minaki area of the Winnipeg River. I would like to try somewhere new that is in that general area of Ontario.

Hey Doc!
Drop me a line about Minaki if you could.
Thanks
Look into Crow Lake. Big musky and not a lot of pressure. There are 5 (I think) lodges on the lake. Allen's, Crowfordsresort.com, Musky Bay, and I don't remember the other two.
I've been going there for about 5 years and it is great and affordable. I will be up there from July 5-18 this summer. Crow has some great smallmouth fishing also if you get tired of throwing musky lures all day. It also has close access to LOTW.

Hey Doc,
I have been going to LOTW for the last 18 years or so for Muskie and have always liked Split Rock Lodge. About 9 miles out of Nestor Falls. It's a short boat ride to a lot of excellent Muskie fishing water. You also asked why, here is my reason/opinion. I first went there back in the early 80's for about 5 years with 3 other guys and then we started moving around LOTW to check everything else out. We have gone to Red Wing Lodge (out of Morson), Oak Island Resort (Oak Island), Monument Bay Lodge (2 times), Tamarack Lodge (2 times). We also went up to Dryberry Lake once, Lac Suel 3 times, once out of Ojibwa Outfitters (to Chamberlin Narrows) and twice Anderson Lodge (Pickerel Narrows), all of the places at Lac Suel were remote outposts (or should I say REMOTE). Anyway, we came back to Split Rock Lodge, the cabins are comfortable, the price is good, the fishing is very good, and the man who owns the resort is very accomodating.
I see from your profile that your from MPLS, the owner of the resort is from Minnetonka I believe. His name is Mike Dysart, give him a call.
Just a thought,
Stillwater,
I have been searching the fishing shows and web sites for LOTW resorts for a couple of years now and have never heard of Split Rock Lodge. Do you know if they have a web site?

Hey Roy,
I can't find anything on the WEB either. I don't think he has a site.
I don't have any literature here at home but I may have some up at the cabin. I will look this weekend and see if I can find more info. But it's easy enough to find if you have a map of LOTW that shows Nestor Falls. You go straight out about 9 miles, (you follow one of the "tracks") and you'll see where it passes through Split Rock Narrows and the resort has been there for years. 7 or 8 cabins, several docks. Nice place, we (7 of us) are booked into it again this year, last weekend in July.
Stillwater,
I will check my map. Maybe this is one of the those "great" places that I have been looking for. One that is so good that it lives off of repeat business and doesn't have to advertise. Thanks for the info.
