I just got my package from rollie/helens with my new board , I got the off shore brand , with the medium weight OR 14 release, My question is that the papers that come with it say that it works best with 10-12 lb mono line , needless to say I don't have any mono rigged up, so will braid work ? I use tuff line plus 65 lb mostly, and some 80 also . I am not looking to troll deep divers that pull real hard , my lure choices will be spinners , bucktails and medium sized minnow or twitch baits . So do I have to order the heavy duty release's or can I get by with the medium one? Thanks for any info on learning how to use this new tool . ManitouDan

I use the same boards. You can wrap line around the snap to prevent it from getting off. I found that the thin line would get stuck in the creases of the Or14 snaps. So, I replaced mine with the Or-18 snaps (about $11 each)and no longer have a problem with the braided lines (I use 50#) coming off. I feel it is well worth the investment.

I know someone else (trolls a lot more than I do) that uses 50# braid with his boards. He still wraps the line around the snaps anyway. He claims it prevents the line from fraying.

You can get the OR18s directly from the manufacturer. Not sure if the other catalogs have them.
