OK guys and gals. I am looking to book a trip in 2003 and am not sure where to go. I have been going to Eagle lake in September/October the last few years, but want to try something new. Don't get me wrong about Eagle, I have seen fish in that lake that would scare some people, but I think that it may be time for a change. My main objective is to catch a 40+lber (I'm not asking for much giggle, giggle) and would like to hear your thoughts.
All it takes is one cast.....

Ubuck,
I would start your quest by looking at Canada's list of World Class Waters. They all have 54" size limits. Take your pick on which one to go to. Georgian Bay is kind of the Holy Grail for world record seekers now. That is big water though, and my guess is you really have to put in your time there before you start hooking up with 40lb fish. Hiring a guide would certainly be the way to go. If it were me? I would hire a guide on Lake of the Woods or the Ottawa River/St Lawrence system. If you lived in Minnesota, I would tell you to stay at home and concentrate on getting to know one of the big lakes that are producing this size of fish. Obviously, if you have limited time, you should concentrate on late Fall for the majority of your fishing.
