Been moving a few, but no hook-ups! They are either lazy follows, or look like hot fish that just don't commit. Bummer.Cast-n-blast

Keep in mind that the pond-weed has been dying off and when that occurs the fish move away from their previous spots. My observations are that the pond-weed is the single biggest factor in fish movements during late June and early July on many of the smaller metro lakes. When the weed dies, the decompostion sucks the oxygen right out of the water and forces the fish to move away from the area. That could mean shallower, deeper, or to another part of the lake with green weeds like cabbage. The important thing is that the fish move and won't be in the same spots where they were before.
I've been seeing big fish almost every time out since the start of the year. Last time the Muskies were in either 3 feet or +15 feet of water and nowhere near the dying pond-weed.
And in another week or two after all the pond-weed decomposition has taken place, the patterns will again change and then its another new pattern.
Thats the fun thing about fishing - its always changing.:)
Good luck all.

Herb,
Are you talking about lakes that are also infested with Milfoil? Does the pondweed lifecycle have any effect on milfoil-dominated lakes?
You are right about 15+ ft of water. Nothing is coming off the weeds right now. I don't know about >3 ft: It's hardly possible to fish skinny water in the face of milfoil.

Got 2 inner city fish last night between 8:30 and 9 PM. Saw nothing else. This is such a wonderful area to live in. Rod Ramsell for governer!

horseplayer,
The process of plant decomposition will take oxygen out of the water no matter what type plant it is. Milfoil and especially cabbage can add oxygen, but the dying pondweed will take much of the oxygen right out of the water and the fish then vacate the area. The big question is where do they go then? I've recently found the Muskies in cabbage in shallow water and suspended in +15 feet of water. It seems anywhere away from the dying pondweed is possible at that point.
There was a cabbage die-off last year on a lake I fish in northern MN where the fish all vacated the cabbage in certain areas of the lake. I couldn't find any fish where there were many the week before so I simply snagged some of the cabbage and it was brown. The fish were only a few hundred yards away but far enough to not be affected by the cabbage die-off. I've also seen the same thing happen when milfoil is sprayed. The fish are out of the area in a hurry.
Hope this helps.
Good luck all.
