Scott,

After reading and thinking of your replies as to why a certain thread would be deleted, I agree with your decisions and would like to further ask if this might be considered. After a thread gets out of hand, necessitating deletion, do you feel it would be of benefit to the total demeanor of the board, if a post noting its deletion and reason(s) were added? Could this be an opportunity to let people know that certain types of remarks/language/comments are "out of bounds", or do you feel it would be a waste of effort on your part? Perhaps being informed of these limits would assist in helping people maintain some level of civility, I don't know. (Just trying to make an otherwise negative situation work in a positive manner.)

That was pretty weird, I just happened to open up the general discussion board right before one of the posts was removed. And when I tried to get to it, it wouldn't let me, then it was gone.

I do know why it was removed though.

if a thread got deleted, 1) if you have been reading it you know what caused it's cyberdust. 2) if you saw it posted, but never read it and it turned to dust, you still basicly know why it's gone.
being involved with this site in the early years, i know the amount of time required by all these fine folks who commit time and effort into keeping this site the quality it is. trying to explain every judgement/action is like asking these folks to explain themselves. over the years, scott and zach have stood pretty standfast in their views from the very begining. this site has become bigger and better than any of us ever imagined. scott, zach and everyone else work "regular" jobs (some working 16hr days)and trying to get in fishing like everyone else. this site is here out of long hours, no pay and commitment to having a great site with "more info than you can handle". on top of what you get from all the info, your able gain many friends from this site, and you can't put aprice on that. i know i sure have!!! i really look forward to meeting up with walleyecentral folks every chance i get.
(sorry for the long post...)
happy new year to all!

Hi, Tom. I just wanted to say Happy New Year to you and the family.
Oh, and you said that very well too. :-) Cyberdusting is nothing personal. I think it's even been done to me at least once. And we all
know how dangerous it is to try to shut up a woman :-) But a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

Tom.... I think you guys are doing fine. I see some of my responses get dusted now and then.

I just figured you guys get sick of seeing my "handle" all the time!
"T-Mac sez: blah blah blah blah...blah.B,B,Blah,.... blah blah" :-)

Happy New Year!

Ebijack,

Certainly I am aware of the time involved in running a board of this type, as well as holding down a regular job. Having Scott and Zach explain their every move was not the idea , though. In Scotts' initial reply as to why a thread was dusted (it got nasty between the time I last read it and returned to the board--an it was gone) Scott himself replied how nice it would be if some people could "learn" to keep things civil. My question regarding explainations was to derve as a learning tool. Perhaps, just maybee, some individuals could benefit from the explaination. Then there would be less work involved for Scott and Zach to patrol the board. It was just a thought, an attempt at trying to approach the problem from another perspective, and make this board an even better place.

howdy husky, i guess because of my history with this site, it seems the same problems arrive every year about dusting posts that are questionable by some. that's why i mentioned scott and zach's steadfast rules about postings. just seems simple to me..don't bash/swear and don't post trying to get folks to "look at my site" type thing. when scott has taking the time to post about dusting posts, the reasons have been the same.
keep the ideas coming!
