If you don't need mapping, the Garmin 126 and 128 are great units. 126 ($279)is internal antenna and 128 ($299) external. Very easy to use; user friendly. Plotter.

I have the Lowrance GlobalMap 100 mounted on a ram unit on the boat, car and pickup. Screens a Little small, but the flexibility to take anywhere is a real benefit with the waypoints being in there from the summer to use for the winter. Real flexible and easy to use and great mapping capabilities.

I'm using a Garmin 48. I've had this unit for a year now and after learning it by driving in my car it is a fine unit and easy to use. When I am adding waypoints as I drive a number comes up on the screen. When I get to my destination I have a bunch of numbers that I can't always remember what I marked. I went out and bought a mini cassette recorder. Now when I mark say a lighthouse I record the number on my G.P.S and "label' it on my recorder.

I use the Garmin 12 year-round. The spots I mark in the Summer with my boat, we Ice fish in the Winter. The portable 12 is a great unit!

I have the Garmin 12cx. I like the color options for marking waypoints, and very easy to use. Just yesterday I re-marked "home" behind the garage (center of alley). While returning from a 30 mile road trip, I hit the goto just to check the accuracy after all the unscrambling. I told the wife to watch it as we approached home and let me know when it hit zero. Well, just as we pulled onto the driveway, she said zero, right on the exact spot I marked! Definitely an improvement!
Take care,

Brad

I use the Lowrance 212. It works great with the dedicted keys for zoom out and in. The processor is made by Rockwell, Who incidently put the satelites in orbit. Its said that their unit works better since its completely compatible and not just using the system. Use it often and you'll enjoy it more. :D

Hi,
I use the Lowrance Global Map 1600. It's awesome having the mapping in addition to the GPS. There's nothing like being able to take a Fishing Hot Spots Map and easily match it to the global map on the Lowrance while on the water (that you download from the computer cd rom) and then mark your gps coordinates on it either on the computer or on the water. It's also nice being able to load the data you collect on the water into a file on the computer so you can print it off, study it, and file it for future returns to that water. A little more money and you can add sonar too (by getting the LMS 160);but, personally I like to have a separate unit for sonar (Lowrance x85) so that I have a larger screen for each.
Good luck,
~Jenn

Hey, Mongo! Attach that unit to a bluebox and you've got a handy portable unit. Looking forward to seeing your new boat on Big Stone. We'll know you're launching when we see the water level rising. Nice purchase! Enjoy!!!

Love my Garmin GPS-12 also. Very convenient and reliable. With the recent release of the S/A, this unit tracks me around my yard. The things that really sold me on this unit was the 12 Satelite internal antena, simple setup and recall, clear screen, durable and an instructional video.
