Hey Guys!

A friend and I are planning a trip to LOTW on Aug 8-11 (new moon). We will primarily be fishing Sabaskong and Whitefish Bays. Wondering if anyone could provide me with ANY insight?

Thanks in advance

Ski,

This is the slow time of the year for the boards (everyone is fishing) so it may be a while before you get a reply. Until then, do a search under Lake of the Woods and LOTW in the archives. There is a ton of info about this lake here. Also be sure and check out the fishing reports section. Put a post up and search there too.

Just returned from LOTW (Sabaskong)today. Have been there since May 24th. Muskie fishing has been fairly slow on Sabaskong. Some fish being caught, though. The lake is as high as last year after the 18" plus of rain in 40 hours in June. The lake rose four and a half feet in a matter of days. It has confused things somewhat. Even though it has not been particularly good on LOTW, the opener and the two weeks after were dynamite on Crow. My son caught a 52" on one day and two 48"ers the next. Plus his buddy ane I caught several from 40" up to 47". LOTW seemed to be clearing when we left, which will help. There is hardly any coontail, but some cabbage. We were seeing muskies on rock walls and I suspect they were using them to move along from area to area. Hard to find fish in the same area from day to day. I'll be back up there the last week of Aug. till mid Sept. Hoping the late fishing will be better. Good Luck!

I just returned from LOTW I did not fish sabskong or whitefish , but I beleive the fish are same throughout the whole Lake. I had my best luck fishing topwater on reefs close to big water. bucktail fishing wa slow but picked up after I added ateaser tail to it. Saw several fish 0ver 55" and lost several over 48". Try fishing early in the morning till 11 in weed beds and than move to reefs for the rest of the day into the evening. Jerkbaits were slow but should pick up in August. I hope this helps and good luck .
