Just wanted you all to know about a very anti-Muskie resort.

I've had an RV trailer on a seasonal site at Augers Resort on Lake Shamineau near Brainerd for the past few years and it is no longer any fun being there. The owner of the resort there is not a nice person at all and he is constantly blaming the Muskies for eating all the Walleyes. He seems to enjoy stirring up a great deal of strife and its come to the point that I can no longer go there without being verbally attacked by the Walleye fishermen who are all riled up by the owner. It is all so rediculous because there is a huge population of Walleyes in the lake and, like all clear water lakes, they don't bite very well until after dark. My wife doesn't like the resort either and so we're going to sell the trailer and go.

I just wanted you all to know to stay clear of Augers Resort on Lake Shamineau. If you do ever stop there, don't ever mention that you fish Muskies or you'll really be in for it. I've seen guys about run out of there for asking how the Muskies are biting and its no fun having to take that sort of abuse.

If you're going to stay up there somewhere, I'd recommend Shamineau Acres. The owner there is great and you won't hear any nonsense about the Muskies.

On the bright side, I'm now going back to spending my fishing time on the real Muskie lakes like Mille Lacs, Leech, Vermillion, Minnetonka, etc, etc, etc. :):):)

Good fishing all.

What a shame. I knew a couple whose family had a trailer at Augers. They thought that muskies were a great addition to the lake. Seems everyone in their family had caught one and they were the biggest that any of them had ever caught.

I absolutely do not understand how someone in the business can be so friggin stupid about the resource. You would think that someone that makes their money from the resource would learn something factual about it.

I just do not get it.

Hooker, they don't have a bar. Its just a clubhouse overlooking the lake. You can show the owner all the studies you want, but it won't do any good. The guy even denies that people have been catching a lot of Walleyes this year when they fish after dark. Nope, the Muskies are eating them all.

Tom, I don't understand why the owner does what he does either. He ticks off all the Walleye fisherpeople and they don't like the place because of what he says and I sure don't like getting pounced on all the time. Everyone gets angry and its really a pain to be on the docks and have people come looking for an argument because they can't catch Walleyes. I have to try calm them down and sometimes they even listen to my tips on how to catch the Walleyes. I find giving away jigs and power grubs goes a long ways sometimes. But, it takes all the fun out of it for me and we bought the trailer to have fun. The Muskie fishing is fairly good at times, not great, but one can catch a mid 40 inch fish every now and then.

In the end we don't go up there much anymore and it isn't worth the rent to have something one doesn't use. I'm dreading going up there this weekend to power-wash the RV so we can sell it. :(

And so it goes.

If you want some muscle, drop me a line and I'll take some of the pounding with one. Might even argue with the clown for a bit. If it's on Friday, that would be great, I'm usually in a pretty foul mood after work on Friday (it's the busiest, hardest day of the week at the St Cloud UPS center.)

You guys crack me up.:)

Tom, I'll be OK this weekend. Noone has ever tried to hit me or anything like that. Its just the same old "the Muskies are eating all the Walleyes blah, blah, blah" and take it out on the Muskie fishermen nonsense. Lots of dirty looks and a few insults get thrown my way too from various Walleye fishermen up there. I've actually had a couple boats from the resort come by swearing at me while I was casting. Unfortunately I couldn't quite reach them with the bucktail I was throwing and they were out of range before I could get a bigger lure on.:)

Hooker, you're completely welcome to fish there and the St. Cloud guys are pretty close too. If the fish aren't biting there you can always head over to Alexander. I don't know if I'll be able to join you because we may not have the trailer for long. I do know a few good spots so email me at HerbB if you want some tips.

Good fishing all.

I think that we should try and do a mini challunge... do half a day on Sham, half on Alex. I'll mention it at the next meeting and see if we can get something for either 3rd week of Sept. or sometime in October.

So now I'm selling the trailer and then all you guys are heading up there. :)

One thing you can do is stop by the resort in September and tell them you were interested in staying there until you heard how they hated Muskies so much. They usually have lots of empty cabins come late September and that would really bug the owner. :)

Any of you guys doing any good on the metro lakes lately? I'm going to get out this weekend for the first time on a metro lake in a few weeks. I suppose they may be tough to find and will require some searching tactics. Might be time for the Shady Tail!!!

Good fishing all.

You can come down, and join the fun that will be happening on Tonka. A bunch of guys from another board are getting together for some fishing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on Tonka. I will be there Saturday morning. Plus it is the first week of the Twin Cities Metro Muskie League.

Tonka on a weekend + a beautiful weather forecast does not sound like a good mix for muskie fishing, sounds more like a road rage formula.

I want to echo Herb's criticism of this resort. I have been there on many occasions and they have NO GOOD THINGS TO SAY about muskies. It seems if the owner has something to complain about, he blames it on the muskies. Too many weeds? Muskies fault. Too windy? Muskies fault. Too many stunted sunfish? Muskies fault.
The guy is a totaly pompous idiot and they DO NOT deserve your patronage.
I know of a time that a resorter had a sublegal muskie and he saw the guys go into the fish cleaning shack and he followed. He told them it was a muskie and not large enough to keep. But he said go ahead. I would like to get rid of all those fish because they eat all the walleyes.
I go into the resort every chance I get and give them a good ribbing. Telling how I keep catching those rough fish (walleyes) while fishing for muskies. That gets them going.
I think it would be fun to get about 20 boats out there, muskie fishing and then all go up to the resort and start trashing him and his ethics. I know that isn't the image we as muskie fishermen want to portray and would probably make things worse, but it would sure be fun.

Thanks Captain.

I think the best thing to do here is to not spend any money at Augers Resort. The owner constantly claims he doesn't get any business from Muskie fishermen, even though he knows full well he does, so why not make his wish come true?

However, I would highly recommend the other resort on Lake Shamineau. The owner over at Shamineau Acres is really nice and doesn't give a rip about what people fish for. He just wants people to have fun and enjoy their time there. And his cabins are less expensive and there is a private dock for every cabin right out in front. Stayed there once myself and its pretty decent.

Good fishing everyone.

Thanks Lance. I live in the cities and am a short drive to Minnetonka. The biggest fish in my boat this year was caught on Tonka, so its hard not to want to go back there.:)

Good fishing.
