Hey all! Headed out to Tonka Thursday/Friday. What is the action like? What is working/depths/areas, etc?
Last I heard were bucktails? I'd imagine surface lures would be hot?
Thanks

I was on Tonka Saturday morning and talked to a few of the guys doing the outing before we put our boat in. I would have fished the outing, but I had to be home early and only had a few hours to fish. To make a long story short, my fishing partner and I saw a number of good fish and coulda, woulda, shoulda had a couple nice ones.
I'm not going to give away my spots, but I will say the fish were holding on or near structure right near deep water. They were also very high in the water column and topwaters and shallow running cranks, gliders, and jerk-baits were the order of the day.
Good luck.

One more thing worth mentioning. We saw most of the fish between 8:00 am and 9:00 am before the moon set. After that it was slow, and we had to pull off the lake about 10:00 am.
Good luck.

Thanks Herb.. I was out yesterday and lost what was a mid 40 inch fish in the weeds. Our action came from 8:30 till about 10:30am.
Besides the one I lost, had 2 follows and those were both low to mid 40 inch class fish.
Had absolutely no luck on top waters or cranks. They were chasing Bucktails and spinners inside and outside the weedlines. And yes - they are holding high in the water column!

Tahoe,
Tonka does vary a lot from day-to-day, eh? I haven't fished it a great deal until this year, but it constantly strikes me as a lake where one needs to be very versatile and be open to trying different things. I have seen big fish there in two feet of water and way out in 40 feet of water. The largest fish in my boat there this year came in four feet of water and we've seen many and caught several other fish in over 20 feet.
But on any given day the big girls can be anywhere. Just gotta find them.
Good fishing.
