View Full Version : Musky eats boys remote control boat

I saw the story and picture in the Longville Pine Cone Press.
A 10 year old boy was running his remote control boat from a dock at Little Boy Resort on Little Boy Lake last Wednesday. Apparently the boy ran the boat through some lily pads when a 40" muskie ate the boat. The fish hung onto the boat for 6 minutes trying to take it under before finally releasing it.
This could open up a whole new concept in Top Water Baits!

Worked on the skinny water rock reefs and island shores?

Single hook hangs right in the eat zone!

The end of the story has just begun. The boy will grow up an obsessed Muskie Fisherman, spending thousands on gear, in search of the "boat eater". Welcome a new one to the fold!

we saw a duck being pulled underwater by a huge pike in Sweden. Gurgle gurgle gurgle ..... nothing left but feathers! And no, there are no sharks there, just pike! How about a huge duck as a topwater??
I wonder if one of these RC boats would have enough power and speed for pulling a lure? Could make a great "planar" board, just put a line release on it and let it be a variable speed, steerable planar board. If a muskie hits your lure, it will release from the RC boat and you can drive the RC boat back to your boat. You could also vary the lure speed and direction independent of your big boat.
Would this be legal?

Dan,
What color was the little boy's boat? :)

His was red and white, I will try to order one in chartruse and jailbird. My plan is to work them in those very shallow hard to get at weedy areas, with the little cox engines they should have plenty of power to bring even the biggest fish back to the boat. Gman you might consider adding these boats to your big bait line up!
If you do please consider adding the bumble bee pattern!

Better yet, how about some feathers and rubber feet and head glued on the boat. Have it motor around the top of a weed bed quacking "AFLAC." Bucher tackle could sell the feathers, feet and head and call it a "Duckraider Kit".

We have a company right here in Colorado that makes RC boats for fishing.

This is great! All those days of wearing your arms out casting those big lures are gone! No more backlashes!
Just hook a line to a RC boat and drive the remote control boat around. Just think, you can sit and fish all day and not have to cast, all while drinking beer!
What shall we name this new lure/technique?
I think the technique can be called 'Remote Lining'

Would this be legal on no-trolling lakes?

Not sure Roy. I have never heard of non-trolling lakes.

I've heard they eat them all of the time. Wasn't able to find a lick of proof though.

Roy,
Nope, I have lake shore property in MN near brainerd but would love to try Wisconson.
All we have here in CO is some wakelss lakes and electric trolling motor only lakes.

And lots of great skiing, which is the only thing that I like better than fishing!

There was a photo of the kid with his boat in the paper, it was red with yellow stripes. Don't have much of those colors in my muskie box. I guess I should get some more muskie lures. Red and yellow topwaters.
Sounds like a big DareDevil!

This is a true story,,,we have a place in Minneapolis where all the classic cars and hot rods cruise,,A guy made a motorized little skate board with a weedwacker motor that he could ride and hit about 5 mph..he was riding it around all the parked hot rods and a cop told him to use it in the street only,,,the guy smarted off to the cop and also had a beer in his hand,,,the cop wrote him a D.W.I,,On a skateboard!!! hey its a motorized vehicle

Probably one of those guys that thinks he never duz anthing wrong and innocent people never get in trouble so he could just mouth off to the cop. He`s lucky it wasn`t a game warden he could have had his board searched as reward for his insaboardanance who knows what that guy had to hide. I once was told by a cop I could give you a DUI rite now for opperating that boat. A boat with only an elecrtic motor on a pond. I was drinking a beer at the time and asked if he was joking he said no he could do it. I told him not if I pass a breathalizer you can`t. It was my first brew. He said he would give me a break on the open container gee thanks. Is that what the law is intended for ball busting. Apparently some not all cops think so. Too bad for us citizens.

How fast was the boat going? Was it a constant speed? Was it going in a straight line or side to side? Why type of Propeller did it have, IE Pitch and color?
I need to know.

The story about the boat ran in todays (Saturday) August 3rd St. Paul Pioneer Press newspaper. Story written by one Bill Gardner, Yes the same Bill Gardner who wrote "Time on the water."
According to the article the boat had twin props. Super Top Raider come to mind, or a HI-Fin Twin TeaserTail? Happend at little boy resort south of Longville Mn. Ryan, 10 years old, was playing with his Tyco Hydro Racer boat. Boat is 10 inches by 4inches wide and 3 inches high. Boat was red and white with yellow racing strip and black on the bottom. 2guys rowed after the fish and the toy boat and tried to net the fish but the fish kept diving with the boat in it's mouth. The muskie dived for the last time and shortly after the boat floated to surface, the boat was scratched up. The boat can be controlled as faras 30 feet away. The fish took the boat sideways in its mouth. Afterwards Ryan sent the boat back out hoping the muskie would hit it again.
That's what I like about these fish. You never can tell what there gonna do next. I don't think that you average Wallpie or Bass Turd fish would do something like this. They would run and hide

Boy,I thought only things like that happened on the infamous Chippewa Flowage. Next thing you know they will be calling themselves the Musky Capital of the World. We can't have that now can we?
Too late Walker already calls it self "The Muskie Capital of the Nation"
